Apologies for the late post! This is my favorite run/hike in the area. All dirt trails and incredible views. The time and distance involved in this run/hike will depend on the people interested in joining. If you can run 6-8 miles comfortably, then the route I have in mind should not be a problem. The time enroute will be aprox 2.5-3 hours (this involves hiking the steep parts and picture taking) The route starts out on a gorgeous canyon road that provides a nice warm up to the Sleepy Lion Trail. Sleepy Lion is a bit steep in places, which is where portions of the "hike" will happen. After some amazing views on top of the Sleepy Lion Trail, we will descend to the bottom of the Button Rock Dam. A switchback dirt trail will take us up to Ralph Price Reservoir where we will follow a trail around the reservoir. The total distance will depend on who is interested in attending-I will determine this appropriately so that all who attend can enjoy the run/hike. It will be important to do this early due to potential "crowds" and also the heat (many parts of the trail are shaded, but there are also some very exposed parts).
I promise that if you attend this outing, you will have a new favorite run trail (also great for families!)
People should carpool from Longmont if possible, or at least carpool from the Stone Cup in Lyons. My plan is to be up at the trailhead by 6:30 at the latest. This would mean leaving Longmont between 5:45 and 6:00AM. I have room for 6 people in my car and am happy to be the driver. I will arrange the meeting time and place when I get a better idea of how many people may be interested in attending.
Items to bring on run: WATER (a hydration pack is preferable, or at least one large bottle) , fuel (bar or gel, we will be out 2-3 hours), camera (you will definitely want this)
Please feel free to call or txt me with questions at[masked] or post them on meetup.
