Access Control Committee - Ideas Session

TinkerMill is looking into implementing an access control system for the space and the "dangerous" equipment.  I'm putting together an Access Control Committee that will be tasked with researching, designing, and implementing the access control system for TinkerMill.  This first meeting will be an "ideas" session for fielding ideas and looking at system from other hackerspaces.  If you have prototypes, feel free to bring them for demonstration.  If you have pricing information, including "build vs buy" information, please bring that as well.

Current Ideas:

- RFID

- Facial Recognition

- QR Code Readers

Please bring any other ideas you have also.

My presentation ( in person or via Google hangout ) revolves around QR codes. Tuesday morning at 00.53 hrs a buddy of mine ( Ryan Diebel ) turned me on to Steve Gibson.

BTW haw are you physically securing the area ? With motorized deadbolts ? Minaturized Death Star drones ? Trapdoors into quicksand ? Snaky ropes with wet superglue ?

The results of the meeting will be posted to the TinkerMill website and included when the next meeting is scheduled.

As for securing TinkerMill, I like the Death Star drones idea. Do you know where we could find plans for them? The front door has a mag-lock on it already, so I'll probably see of that will work. Other doors will likely get crash plates. The equipment will eventually get contactors (?) to cut the power when not in use.

According to Solid State Depot's wiki, they had a DMP XR500 panel, two reader pads, and a crash plate donated. Here's the specs for the panel: http://www.dmp.com/XR100/XR500
