Everyone wants a place where you can find the tools you need and, maybe, a group of people that know how to do interesting stuff and have amazing madskills that you can collaborate with to create new and wonderful things?
Yea... us too.
We want to put together a place like that in Longmont. This would be a place where art, technology, tools, teaching and collaboration come together into a true creative community.
What's often been called a Hackerspace or Makerspace in other cities with similar spaces.
Imagine one place with all the tools you need, or might need to really let loose your innovative side. Tools like work stations with 3D printers, Laser cutters, textile tools like computer driven embroidery machines, woodworking tools, soldering stations, electronics and robotic stations, welding equipment, a private cloud system (think: your own personal datacenter) and a classroom full of people all week long learning and teaching subjects ranging from synthetic biology to autonomous drones to arduino robotics programming to good costume design techniques.
Maybe even a class where your kids can learn to program.
If you're interested in helping to create a space like this, come join us and let's see what we can create together.
DEFINITIONS: HACKER: A hacker is a person who enjoys exploring the limits of what is possible, in a spirit of playful cleverness.
MAKERSPACE: It is a community-operated physical space where people with common interests, often in computers, technology, science and/or art, can meet, socialize and/or collaborate. Hackerspaces can be viewed as open community labs incorporating elements of machine shops, workshops and/or studios where hackers can come together to share resources, tools and knowledge to build and make things.

Here it is, your chance to get behind a 5000°F torch and melt some borosilicate glass for yourself! We will supply all the requisite materials, safety equipment, and instruction to ensure you have an enjoyable and memorable experience. All that we ask you to bring is your enthusiasm and an idea of what you'd like to create!
We will be employing an oxygen/natural gas torch to melt borosilicate glass and can therefore make anything from beads to marbles to small pipes and sculptures. This is not the large scale soda-lime glass which is often depicted on shows such as "Blown Away" on Netflix and as such it is easier to manipulate for beginners and less costly to set up and operate. If you would like an low pressure, accessible introduction to the world of glass art, this is your chance.
Classes are arranged such that each student has a one-hour time window within which to operate and experiment. Your instructor can demonstrate a skill for you if you'd like but will have to keep techniques simple for time's sake. Feel free to warm up with your own independent research into different skills and techniques so as to make the very most of your time, otherwise, we are happy if you just want to come and play!
If you have questions about this class you may contact the instructor: Flameworking Shop Captain jacob.hammack@tinkermill.org. Members, please message on Slack.
