Willoughby

Note: redirected east to Willoughby for a foliage promenade.

This loop will only be possible if lake level rises significantly. Date is highly tentative, dictated by draught, and will be pushed back until it rains. Route is out Dead Creek to Goose Bay, north into Missisquoi Bay, close around Shad and Metcalf Islands (staying inside the border), back upriver to the launch. Last week we watched an extremely rare Hudsonian Godwit feeding at the eastern outlet of the delta, as well as several Bald Eagle, a pair of Pileated Woodpecker and at least two Green Heron flying low overhead (plus all the usual suspects, of course).

Thank you Karl for organizing. The cold upped the ante on my equipment experimentation, but I basically kept warm. We got some headwinds and surfing which was fun.

Good fall day paddle. Some sun, some cloud some calm, some wind and waves. Lovely place. Karl, thanks for the organizing, Dorothy, thanks for coming so far, Don, thanks for the ride!

Saturday weather in that area 49, sunny, 20% chance of showers, WSW 12mph. Who's going?

I'm in but, again, I need a ride. Could meet someone along the way

OK - it's time to pull the plug on this. We couldn't get out through the delta on the last trip and since then lake level has risen only 15 cm, half what I think is necessary. So, let's look at Willoughby instead.

This week is supposed to be warmer and dryer for the most part. I know there's a couple of weekend trips going on so maybe thursday?

The ground is so thirsty we're still hovering at record low lake levels. Without a deluge in the next week, I think Missisquoi will remain out of reach. A Willoughby foliage tour is not a bad consolation prize, though.

I missed Willoughby so I'm up for that

This is looking less and less likely as our drought stretches into autumn. Is it time to plan an alternative, for instance a return to Willoughby for foliage?
