Film on Friday at the Historic Elitch Gardens Theatre (outdoors!)

Once again, the folks trying to bring the old Elitch Theatre back to life are holding a series of movies that star or have some connection to actors (or others) who are "alumni" of the hey day of the summer stock productions.  Your $5 donation (or whatever you feel like contributing) will go to rehabilitating the theater and bring it back to life.

To kick off the season, we'll be enjoying that '50s Sci-Fi movie, "Forbidden Planet" (inspired by Shakespeare's "The Tempest").  Live music will start at 7 pm and the movie starts at dusk (around 8:30 pm).  You can also dress up for the Sci-Fi costume contest (any Klingon or Jedi fans out there?). For more information, click here.

So bring a lawn chair, blankets, and/or pillows so you can view the movie comfortably, a snack and beverage (adult versions are allowed) so you don't go hungry (or pick up something from the food trucks or at the local Starbucks, yogurt store, or nearby Sprouts).  Also, keep an eye on the weather report, and be prepared.

This is a very inexpensive but full and fun night out that also allows you to support a worthy cause.  So be there!

I just wished it had rained here in my neighborhood! But I'm glad you all enjoyed it, even though we missed the end.

Btw, I'm thinking of doing it again for the last movie, Top Hat. This time, perhaps we can stay for the whole thing.

I'm impressed. I saw the movie a thousand yrs ago BUT although I recognized the plot as it occurred had no memory how it ended but what you say sounds right...good for you! Mind like a steel trap! Mine's like a leaky sieve.

Yes, that was quite a storm. But it was isolated. When I reached 38th and Kipling in Wheat Ridge, there was little evidence of rain and almost none when I arrived home on Green Mtn. in Lakewood.

Oh well. I don't remember much about the end of the movie, but it's discovered the "invisible" monster is actually created by the Dr. Morbius, unintentionally, but coming from his mind or psyche, using the technology he discovered in that cave.

I'm pretty sure Alta goes off with the her Captain and the rest of the crew back to Earth. I think her father dies trying to protect her and the others from himself, so to speak. Too bad the storm couldn't hold off for another 30 minutes!

If you are looking for something to do this coming Friday night that is cheap and fun, look no farther. I'll you need to do is show with something to sit on and $5. You can bring your own food/beverages, too, or buy something at the event site.

Music, food/drink, movie, pleasant surroundings and a relaxing evening outdoors for a very reasonable price. What more you could you ask?
