I drove from Burbank and asked at the front desk of Wokcano about three times. They had no clue about he meetup and couldn't direct me anywhere. I walked around up and downstairs for about 10-15 minutes but couldn't find anyone that looked like the group. The front hostess kept blowing me off telling me there was no meetup like the one I was describing with 20-30 people. Bummer.

No worries. I was just frustrated with the whole situation.

All y'all needed a hostess to welcome people and see them to where they needed to be. We "righties" understand these things. :) Collaboration is key.

Josh...as discussed...let's combine the groups as co-admins? Seems we are better off playing together in the same sandbox rather then splintering our efforts!

You might have to send a message to everyone in one group requesting they join the other group (and provide the URL).

I vote for a more central LA location. Santa Monica is really skewed and might discourage people from as far as some parts of OC or the Inland Empire from coming to meetups. Especially at 7pm on a weeknight - from Burbank it took me about 80 minutes. Just some input.

So, who is scheduling the next meetup? Is it YOU??!?!?!?!

    August 23, 2013

    • Micah W.

Paige and I are in the process of scheduling one. We should have a firm date in a few days. But that doesn't stop anyone else from planning one!

Have to bail tonight. :( any meet ups in the Valley in the future?

    August 21, 2013

I posted this on the other meetup page, but since this is in two places, I'll post here too...

Looking forward to meeting you all tonight! Also, Paige from BitPay and I are putting together a Bitcoin panel for an upcoming event, so if you or someone you know is a Bitcoin investor, lawyer or entrepreneur and is interested in being on the panel, please come talk to me tonight at Wokcano or send me a note.

I work for a small French restaurant that would like accept bitcoin.

    1 · August 17, 2013

    • Josh J.

      Hey Christoph!
It shouldn't be too hard.. probably the easiest thing right now for them would be to set up a coinbase account, set it to auto-withdraw all BTC to their checking account, and then print out their deposit address for that account as a QR code on a piece of paper and when somebody wants to pay via bitcoin, just bring them that piece of paper!

Looking forward to meeting. Anyone mining litecoin?

My personal goal is to get some restaurants in LA to start accepting Bitcoin (probably via BitPay). I don't mind at all using a legacy payment system to pay meetup, as much as I would love to know we helped just a little bit to expand the mainstream use of Bitcoin in L.A.

I'm not aware if any bars or restaurants in LA accept Bitcoin to date, so I think it's a major press opportunity to be one of the first. Bars in other major cities have received a lot of mainstream media coverage for being the first in their respective cities, and I feel pretty confident we could get local media to cover one of our meetups (it's an easy way for local media to to a fluff piece on Bitcoin), if we ever wanted to.

Being one of the first establishments to adopter in Los Angeles might also boost patronage by crypto-currency aficionados, both local and from abroad.

Let me check if Josh or Paige from PayPal have hit them up.

How 'bout we open a group tab, then we all pay btc to one person who pays the tab? Perhaps kick in 10% for the person who handles the tab.

Has anyone seen if this establishment will try accepting Bitcoin?
