Elizabeth Ploshay is doing a California tour to meet the Bitcoin community and will be in LA on January 15th. Digital LA was holding a Bitcoin panel with some of the icons of digital currency Brock Pierce, Steve Beauregard and Will Wheeler.  We have joined the events at the ROC in the heart of Silicon Beach.

Since Satoshi Nakamoto left quite a lot of writings. Has anyone try use the software that outs the ghostwriter as J. K. Rowlings?

He is denying it. I feel for the poor chap. Even if he is Satoshi, he wished to remain anonymous. How do we respect privacy in this world?

I'm not clear about mining. I'm hearing the first found solution to a block wins or its like raise hands. Is this means a lucky machine can wins and the entire network mines for nothing? Is this why people join pool?

    January 17, 2014

    • Jim M.

More on mining pools: If a machine in a mining pool finds the next block then the block reward is divided up among all the members of the mining pool based on how much hashing power they contribute to the pool. Probably all but the largest miners join mining pools. Maybe all miners join mining pools these days. The advantage of being in a pool means you get a little bit of reward frequently rather than a large reward very rarely (if you were to solo mine).

Who is first found solution to a block - you are right - so you need FAST systems and a lot of power. As you join the group - chances is really high to get first with solution.

I hope everyone enjoyed last night as much I did. I predict bitcoins go mainstream this year. These are very exciting times.

It's really important that everyone understands there are lots of laws and regulations that may apply to what you and/or your business are doing or want to do with bitcoins or any other digital currency. This is a heavily regulated area in general (and for sure, in the US), and you and/or your business obviously have to comply with all applicable laws and regulations. Which ones apply is fact specific. I'm happy to provide references to compliance attorneys with lots of digital currency-related experience (I got some inquiries about this last night). I don't do that type of work - I litigate. -Brian

I suspect there is going to be a very large turn out. I see this link now being passed between other networks. Are we clear about the fees for the event?

If I RSVPed here and added "+1" then do I get to bring that person in for free? Do you need a name in advance?

      January 14, 2014

    • Josh J.

I'd say just say "meetup" if they ask for money! Let's just say that is the secret word to let you in for FREE!

Hey folks. Any objections to me sending cameras so we can upload the interview to the internets? The Andreas video has been well received and I would hope the same for this!

Yes I hope we are able to film at the even. So many people are interested in these talks and can't make it geographically.

Let me know, I am interested in the video. I might not be able to make the event.

Everyone please note the location change to ROC on January 15th

Not sure the size of this restaurant, but it's the first I've heard of in L.A. that accepts Bitcoin. If it doesn't work for a meetup, we should still support them!

    1 · November 13, 2013

    • Josh J.

Let's do it! I went there for lunch Tuesday and Thursday this week and it's pretty tasty and the owners are very nice!

I put it as the location for this meetup. But maybe we should even have another meetup before this one (early dec?) just to celebrate a restaurant in LA accepting bitcoin?!

      2 · November 17, 2013

    • Micah W.

My vote is for the week after the Bitcoin event in Las Vegas. (after Dec. 11), but I'm biased because I'll be out of town before then.

      1 · November 17, 2013

I'll be there… I'm with one of the largest online bullion dealers in the world and am intrigued about Bitcoin to stay ahead of upcoming capital controls ( case in point our clients in Argentina currently ).

    Say when & where. Thx,

I missed the last meetup unfortunately but I'd love to make this one. I've made some connections this year that might come in handy for some press coverage. Co-founded the site pizzaforcoins.com. Let me know if there's anything I can do

    November 13, 2013

  • Rob M.

Based on the last meetup, I'd sure think we'll have around 100. Maybe more, if the Bitcoin price keeps surging.

I've also been wondering, should we notify local media about one of our meetups? Do people like the idea of local news coverage (even if it will likely be an uninformed fluff-piece)? I feel confident we could get coverage of a meetup, since it would be an easy way for local news to bank a Bitcoin piece. Feel free to weigh in with replies, yay or nay.

Ha, he interviewed me once for an iDevice accessory I developed (ran nationally), he was the first person I was going to ask.

Im really not sure how many will attend, but if it is a small number, I also have a venue - multi-media ready for any kind of presentation.

    October 20, 2013

  • Marty Z.

Will be there. I may be able to help with a venue once we understand how many will join.

It would be great to meet her, we could use some attention from BF.

I had suggested mid January to Elizabeth, but it's hard to pick a date so far in advance. I will definitely try to be there if I'm in town.
