Come for a special night of French short films, Les Lutins du Court-Métrage. A selection of the best French short movies of the year. With English subtitles. Wine and cheese served during intermission. No children under 5.

This will be a great night for socializing in French during intermission as well as seeing some interesting films. Le Lycée Français is renowned as the premier French language schooling for children in Los Angeles. Their theatre is fairly new, having opened in 2000.

Tickets may be ordered online or over the phone, $20 each, $10 students. (Not a bad deal since it includes wine and cheese snacks!) Show starts at 7:30, let's meet at 7:15. Seats are reserved, so those who want to sit together should order tickets together.

Here is their event listing http://theatreraymondkabbaz.com/events.html

Melnitz Movies and The Los Angeles Film & TV Office French Embassy in the US Cordially invite you to a special FREE screening of

A CHRISTMAS TALE
(Un conte de Noël)
by Arnaud Desplechin
Tuesday, January 20 at 7:30pm
James Bridges Theatre
1409 Melnitz Hall,
UCLA Campus, Westwood
310-206-8013

Melnitz Movies, in co-sponsorship with the French Embassy’s LA Film and TV Office and the UCLA Department of French and Francophone Studies, presents A CHRISTMAS TALE, a dazzling work of storytelling by writer-director Arnaud Desplechin (KINGS AND QUEENS).

Emotionally resonant and wickedly funny, the film stars Catherine Deneuve as the cool matriarch of a fascinatingly dysfunctional family and Mathieu Amalric (THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY) as her estranged, unstable son who returns home to spend time with his parents and adult siblings. All crowded again under the same roof, solidarity devolves into feuding, drunkenness and bed-hopping, as everyone struggles to make sense of the mysteries of family and life.

Desplechin’s film has the breadth of a sprawling novel and the wordplay of a classic comedy. Achingly human and fiercely intelligent, A CHRISTMAS TALE proves yet again why Desplechin is among the most engagingly ambitious filmmakers of his time.

“It filled me with unadulterated joy.” -A.O. Scott, NEW YORK TIMES

“This is a film you don’t want to see end, not because the people are so happy, but because they are so human and so alive.” -Kenneth Turan, LOS ANGELES TIMES

Free ticket required, one ticket per person.
Box office opens at 6:30pm. No late seating.

Weather not bad during the day, so let's meet at the park again.

Bring your own baguette, a plate of cheese, a bottle of wine or anything else you'd like to snack on as we go do BYO conversation in the park.

The park is not that big, so you'll find us. It's on the South side, just next to the kids' playground and a few steps from the parking lot and rec building. It is NOT next to the tennis courts on the north side.

RSVP'ing 'NO' isn't necessary. 'YES' or 'MAYBE' is all we need to figure who is coming.

Call Bret's cell if you get lost. We'll wave so you can find us! 818 425 8096. Or Ben 805-264-3219.
