Where did you work/study most recently?

No answer yet

What would you like to get out of this group?

I would like to learn more about general problem solving using computers. Although I have done some pretty complicated coding I haven't really used more mathematical techniques in the applications I have worked on. This may be partly that I don't know where certain methods would be useful on perhaps just the applications I have developed.

How much prior experience do you have with Machine Learning?

Just college course work for the most part.

Do you or your group/organization/company use "machine learning" (artificial intelligence, data mining, statistics, clever algorithms, whatever) on a regular basis or to solve interesting problems?

Mostly just clever OO techniques to manage complicated business logic. Lately I have been studying Functional programming including Scala to learn more about different ways to solve problems. We have been applying some of these techniques in our Java code.

Are there any topics about which you'd be willing to give a presentation (it's OK if not!)?

Not at this time.

I have formal education in Material Science and Industrial Engineering. I have been writing Java and have some background in traditional data warehousing and have been studying Scala. My current focus is financial applications.
