Wanted to let the ML community know that we have Ted Dunning from the Mahout project giving a talk at the LA-HUG next month.

Speaker: Ted Dunning from the Mahout project: Cool tricks with classifiers
When: Wednesday, March 16, 2011 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Where: Shopzilla
12200 Olympic Blvd, 4th floor
Los Angeles, CA 90064

Specifically, Ted will provide a tour of the hashed vector encoding utilities and the stochastic gradient descent learning framework. Ted will describe how evolutionary programming and per-term annealing combine to give very impressive learning performance on large sparse problems. Latent-factor log-linear models are coming before too long in the same framework. Depending on time and level of interest, Ted will demonstrate how a classification farm can be built out of things you have around the house.

Ted Dunning is a core committer on the Apache Mahout project and co-author of Mahout In Action (http://bit.ly/MahoutI...) Get 35% off all Manning.com publications by using the coupon code newmeap35
