Mother’s Night at The Green Man 2012
Sat, Dec 8th, 7:30pm, $10 donation suggested/Potluck to follow
Join us as we sit around the hearth in celebration of the Norse Tradition of Mother’s Night. Traditionally celebrated the night before Yule, this is an event to honor the Disir, specifically the mothers of the family. Since earliest times the Celts and Northern peoples have honored ‘The Mothers.’ This one night of the year all come together to celebrate family and to honor those Mothers who came before and will come after. The night begins at Sundown with a brief blot to the Disir; then the rest of the evening is spent in cooking, doing crafts together, and telling stories of the old ones. In this way the long cold night was spent remembering the Mothers and passing on recipes, skills, and stories so that the Ancestors and our past would not be forgotten. It is a time of fellowship for kin.
We gather on December 8th, 2012 at 7:30pm for an 8pm start time. Feel free to bring your spinning, knitting, crocheting, or other yarn crafts as they are traditionally included in this night.
It is customary to give a $10.00 donation when attending — but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Please bring a dish to share if you wish to stay for the potluck after the ritual.
