Lammas 2009: The Inundation of the Nile

Hail to thee, O Nile! Who manifests thyself over this land, and comes to give
life to Egypt!

Come and prosper!
Come and prosper!
O Nile, come and prosper!
O you who make men to live through his flocks and his flocks through his
Come and prosper, come,
O Nile, come and prosper!
(quote courtesy of Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab,

When: Sunday August 2nd 5 pm
Where: Pacific Unitarian Church, 5621 Montemalaga Drive, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA
What: Egyptian Ritual celebrating the Egyptian New Year, the rising of Sothis
(Sirius), and the inundation of the Nile.

Although Lammas is usually a harvest festival, in ancient Egypt this time of
year was celebrated as the beginning of the month of Tehuti (Thoth) in which the
star Sothis (Sirius) became visible in the sky, a sign of Isis, and signaling
the flooding of the Nile, which makes agriculture and therefore life possible in
Egypt. As the quote about the Inundation states, this is a prosperity ritual!
Wear your best Egyptian or ritual attire and plan to party!
If you have a copy of The Mysteries of Isis, the ritual instructions are on
pages 106-110. Feel free to bring sistra, bells, drums, and other celebratory
instruments. Dancers of all kinds especially welcome, as are diviners!
Bring a Middle Eastern style dish to share if you wish. We will pass the plate
for donations as is the Unitarian way. Please RSVP to Isis_Paedusis@hotmail com
or call 310-371-0274.
