Please note that this event is promoted in various places so the actual turn out is likely to be bigger than would appear from the RSVP's here.
***This is a free event if you bring your own plate/bowl, eating utensils and serving utensils. If you forget to bring these we ask for a $3.00 donation. Funds will be used to pay for Meetup dues, domain name registration, supply and other costs for future potlucks. Additional funds will be donated to Green Veggies, Compassion Over Killing and/or Vegan Outreach.***
***NOTE FROM HOST: Time for another "No Meat & Mingle" vegan potluck and hike. This is an easy to moderate hike with a few steep sections. Round trip will be about 5 miles with max elevation gain of 1100 feet. We will meet at 11AM for the hike. The potluck will start at approximately 1:30PM.
Attendees are welcome to participate in the hike, the potluck, or both. If you plan to do both, you may need an ice chest for your dish. Dogs must be kept on leash. Please bring your own water. You may also want to bring a jacket, hat, sunscreen, etc. A lawn chair or towel to sit on might also be good to have for the potluck.***
Directions to Trailhead:
From the north: Take 101 south to Sunset Blvd. Go left and then another left onto Western Avenue. Western Avenue will become Los Feliz. At the first traffic light, which is Fern Dell Dr., turn left and park immediately along the road. Look for picnic tables on your right, that is the meeting point.
From the south: Take 5 North. Exit Los Feliz and go west a few miles, to Fern Dell Drive, which is a traffic light. Make a right at Fern Dell Drive and park immediately along the road. Look for picnic tables on your right, that is the meeting point.
The Hike: Starts across the street at the wooden sign “FERN DELL
TRAIL”. The narrow trail is arguably one of the most charming and lush in the area and will take you through stream areas with hanging plants and over little bridges. The meandering area is home to over 50 fern species. At the Observatory, we will continue through the parking lot to the Charlie Turner Trailhead. This begins the upper loop which gets us to the top of Mt. Hollywood with a commanding view of San Fernando Valley, the Los Angeles Basin, and the San Gabriel Mountains.
******Please bring a vegan dish to share. Vegan means no meat, fish, eggs, dairy or honey- No animal products at all.*******
