Please tell us about your experience with / interest in veganism.

I stopped eating animals over 30 years ago now--time flies! However, as the proud mama/caretaker of 8 amazing "obligate carnivores" (cats, mostly feral), my notions & sensibilities about all pets being vegan has been challenged. Meat consumption is so integrally tied into so many ecological & wildlife issues (such as drought & extinction) that I am passionate about making those connections in people's minds. I also like to explore how even vegans may be contributing to animal suffering in ways they might not be aware. For example, the mineral Coltan used in all cells phones & computers contributes to the extinction of the rare mountain Gorilla in the Congo (Africa), not to mention civil violence, unrest, & strife.

Please tell us how you think you can contribute to the "No Meat & Mingle" roaming vegan potluck community. What benefits do you hope to enjoy as part of the community?

The benefits are endless: this community is my extended family and I love them dearly. I can contribute food, knowledge and educational resources (literature, handouts, videos), affection, and devotion!

I am a writer, researcher, educator and public speaker on health, food safety & ecological issues, as well as founder/director of the Facebook page "Environmentalists against Human Overpopulation." I write eco-performance art pieces in my spare time.
