Backyard Chicken Keeping: Teach-in/Pot luck

Experience the joys of Backyard Chicken-keeping.

Transition Culver City is hosting a chicken teach-in/pot luck at the Little Blue House. Meet the chickens, see the coop and chicken run. Learn how raising chickens and veggies can be complementary activities.

Workshop is free. Donations are welcome (helps support future events). Please bring a potluck dish for 8-10 people.
RSVP: [masked] or text or call[masked]-1051.

Christy Wilhelmi, http://gardenerd.com/category/blog/, will talk to us about chickens as gardening soul mates, companions, and "workhorses". She'll have her new book, Gardening for Geeks, on hand.

We'll also have the pleasure of hearing from Chelsea McFarland. Chelsea and her husband, Rob, started HoneyLove, a nonprofit conservation organization with a mission to protect the honeybees and inspire and educate new urban beekeepers.

The rooster, "Big Red", will have a new home in Visalia. Sorry not to attend at the last minute. The concept of "pot luck" was too close to "a chicken in every pot", and I could not bare to see someone salivating as he/she imagined this fine rooster as chicken stew. :(

can't wait to meet you one day. I love the picture of you and Big Red. :)

Mellow yet organized event. Enjoyed what the bee keepers had to share. I have never quite understood the passion for bee keeping but the couple presenting made it intriguing! I might put a box in my yard and Will definitely add some bee friendly plants to my garden!

I will be bringing the very last batch of the original LAUCE baseball tees, reduced to $15. I believe there are only small sizes left, American Apparel. All future tees and merch is now on the LAUCE Zazzle page, link below. You get a bigger variety of stuff there (even make your own), but not the original baseball tee. Thanks!

Hi Matt- We're happy you will be joining us. Is East Hollywood a separate city or part of Los Angeles? If its the latter, Christy will be able to talk about LA ordinances and such. I know about Culver City ordinances, and there will be lots of folks who can share info.

Who wants a lovely, tame rooster, "Big Red"? Someone dumped him in my yard and I can't keep him. He will be at this event. (See his picture with me.) Bring a box or cage so you can take him home.
