The Event went very smoothly at Anderson's Pet Shop. The truck carrying the hens in plastic cages was parked in the lot. David took time to answer questions, and be sure all the adopting members felt secure in taking home their new chooks. I heard several people mention their surprise at how small the Leghorns are. I also noticed about eight different eggs which had been laid in the cages while the hens waited their turn to go home.
Within two hours our two adoptees had found a nest box in their new run. They got into it together, taking 15 minutes to scratch out almost all the pine shavings. Then they each laid a large, white egg.
One of our buff orps made a mad dash to establish a pecking order through the wire of the run where the new girls were eating and checking out their new digs. We'll have to keep an eye on that for a week or less.
Thank you for having this meeting! It's a long haul from your place in northern California, to our area.
How many chickens were adopted?

Hi! Are these ladies very aggressive? Will I be able to incorporate them into my backyard flock of four or will they need to be separated from the girls who are spoiled and never suffered a battery cage life :( If they can live with my girls I will gladly give a girl a home! I will fill out app now!

Hi everyone, I am the adoption coordinator with Animal Place. So sorry to keep you all in the dark if you have been waiting. The rescue went great, but we have been very busy with a short staff and 3,000 new hens to care for. We were only able to save that many, but that is still a lot to care for!
They are all getting health checked, and getting strong enough to be adopted out. This sadly could take a while with how many birds we have and such a small staff.
I am aiming for October to have an adoption event down in LA. Peta has not gotten back to me on the date we chose, so we are talking with the Glendale Humane Society about hosting an adoption event there!
That place is much easier to access as well, and hopefully closer to most adopters. Please continue to spread the word, and I will stay in touch with everyone who has filled out the application to adopt.
Again thank you so much for the support and your patience.
