I was just informed that roosters are illegal within city limits so I can not take both of them. I can only take the hen.

Is there anyone that can take both and help Jane out?

Red Barn (redbarnfeedandpet.com) is a chain of stores in the valley area. The Tarzana location has space and may have been willing to accept them(?).

I have a hen adopted 5 weeks ago, found sick and wondering the Melrose neighborhood. She is better but can use the company of another hen (that is not a mirror)... fyi for future reference if anyone is trying to find a home for one hen or can accept mine. She lays shell-less eggs, but system is working because once she had a good egg. From day 7, once I have exhausted finding the owner, she has had layer feed, crushed egg shells, oyster shells (from Red Barn), etc but it is an issue if anyone adopts her. For now, if you anyone has an extra hen (not this pair/best kept together) please let me know.

Thanks.

COOL, Maria!  Thanks for letting me know!  She hopes she can place them both, but she may eventually have to let the girl get the best home she can and leave the rooster wherever he is welcome - which is Red Barn.  She was nervous about it because a man had been coming there saying he was buying live chickens to kill for food.  Lucky (the rooster) survived as a chick in a bag of suffocated baby roosters that were on their way to a wild cat sanctuary to be eaten by bobcats, so she does not want his triumph to end in a soup pot.  Hope you can be "the one!"  Keep me posted.  I had roosters in my apt in H'wood for a few weeks, and I know I won't be able to get away with it here.  ~Sue

I just called Jane and I'm interested but I am just going to check with my neighbor regarding the rooster. Many of my neighbors have chickens but no rooster so I want to be considerate and make sure they know a rooster will be coming to our home.

Hi, I have an elderly friend who is losing her residence due to the economy on Aug 31.  She has a rooster and a silky hen that need to go to a home that will love them, not eat them.  She is in Woodland Hills, and she would appreciate to hear from anyone who could help.  We have tried all the animal rescue places, and they are all full, so no need to mention them.  We are up against a time crunch and have many other things to attend to, so if someone who can have a rooster and hen would step forward, it would be a load off her mind.  Call her (don't text) at:  (818)[masked].  Thanks,  ~Sue
