West Side Ruby & Rails Study Group

Let's Learn Ruby & Ruby on Rails
One Week at a Time

For your convenience there are two groups meeting simultaneously: one on the West side of L.A. in Santa Monica and one on the East side in Glendale ( actual locations may change, basic geography will stay the same.)

We meetup with our laptops, discuss the agenda and go over exercises together. We'll help each other figure out the harder parts and really understand it. You should be able to do some work on your own too, so we can all stay on the same page/book on both sides of town.

We meet every Thursday night 6:30-9pm in the patio of Panera.

Don't feel intimidated if you are brandy new to Ruby or Ruby on Rails; we will help you get up to speed if you are willing to put in the time. If you are more advanced; you can learn by helping others learn while having a dedicated study night.
Maybe you can present a demonstration you are willing to share with the group?
Go for it, we aim to be supportive.

We'll be going over a chosen curriculum over the next few months, with perhaps a book to read on the side. Each month we'll get together with the Eastside Ruby Study Group and hug our sisters on the other side of LaBrea.

So just like the East side, I'll be at the Panera Bread Bakery every Thursday night. Our goal is not to go over the info too fast, but master concepts thoroughly and truly understand both the scripting language and the framework.
Pair-programming will be encouraged for both simple and complex topics.

Zed Shaw Book: Learn Ruby the Hard Way - Great place to start.
Watching Code for Zombies - When you just want to absorb.
Starting Michael Hartl's book next - We'll be voting on this one.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
