Hello Summer Concert Friends,

If any of you are coordinating groups of your own, please feel free to bring your group of whatever size over to my base camp so we can merge groups.  The more the merrier.   I'm usually on the sand until the beginning of the main act (around 8:15 to 8:30) at which I'm up on the pier listening to the band.  However, my base camp is still set up on the sand for people to relax.   I look forward to seeing as many that can attend.  Cheers, Barbara

As always, I will be arriving early to claim our traditional beach front real estate and setting up base camp at our regular location on the sand near the stairs leading to the pier stage (see aerial map).  RSVP is really helpful so I know how much space to attempt to save.  The best way to reach me is by mobile[masked] as I do not check personal email that often.

TIME: 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (music starts at 7:00 p.m., ends at 10:00 p.m.).  After the concert we sometimes pay a visit to Rusty’s bar on the pier for post concert live music, dancing & celebration – no cover charge, , you can bring your beach gear and leave it at the door, just not the valuables.   Arrive to the beach early with your dinner picnic basket, beach chair for some “R & R" and to help secure our evening’s free beachfront real estate.  Stay for awhile and have dinner, or pop in to say hello. The more the merrier and your friends (as long as they are fun and politely adhere to the below requests), are always welcomed. Well behaved children and teenagers are always welcomed at our weekly soiree.  Feel free to post the details on your social web pages. Valley folks, here is your reason to escape the brutal heat of the valley.

NO SMOKING ALLOWED:  Santa Monica City prohibits smoking on the public beach and other public / private areas.  This is a non-smoking group and beach.  This policy will be strictly enforced. We will ask smokers to extinguish their cigarettes/cigars.  In advance, please inform any potential guests who smoke of this requirement.

CLEAN-UP: PLEASE PITCH-IN AND HELP CLEAN-UP OUR BASE CAMP.  I do not moonlight as Miss Trash Collector or your Mother.  Please clear all your trash from our area before leaving our base camp to visit the stage area. I can’t be left with a huge clean-up mess at the end of the night.  Please be aware to please not spill beverages / alcohol / food on my beach sheet. Thanks in advance for your help & support.

ALCOHOL, GLASS BOTTLES, OPEN FIRES, PETS ALL NOT ALLOWED:  $250.00 FINE IF CAUGHT WITH ALCOHOL.  Now that's a really expensive drink!  I’m not the alcohol police, however, if you get busted it’s your ticket, not mine.  Best to transport your illegal liquid libations in a different travel container, designer sport bottle, flask, or coffee thermos.  PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE OPEN CONTAINERS, BOTTLES of alcohol (wine and beer are still considered alcohol) or partially consumed cups of wine on your chairs, towels, or on my sheet / blanket. Please be responsible in not spilling said items on my beach sheet, or you will owe me a new clean sheet.. All bags and coolers are checked for alcohol & glass bottles at the pier stage level.  If bringing alcohol, access our area on the sand by walking around the carousel, down the boardwalk, through the volleyball courts, across the bike path to our base camp, (where bags are not checked). Bring your own wine opener. Santa Monica Police Officers on horses, in sand vehicles or on foot patrol the area throughout the evening.

DINNER: PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN EVERYTHING: FOOD, WATER, UTENSILS, WINE OPENER, CUPS, NAPKINS, PLATES & WATER, (and optional something to share; however, not mandatory to join our soiree).  I WILL NOT BE SUPPLYING THESE ITEMS.  Large quantity food suggestions: chicken meal deals (El Pollo Loco on Pico/Lincoln), Buca De Beppo Family Style Italian located on 2nd Street, Whole Foods located at 500 Wilshire Blvd. Santa Monica, CA 90401 [masked] and 225 Lincoln Blvd. Venice, CA 90291 310.566.9480.   Chinese food, pizza, pasta, lasagna, salads, sub-sandwiches, take-out, desserts, be creative. There is a McDonalds on 2nd Street / Colorado. There is a pizza place near the pier board walk area near a bar and hotdog-on-a-stick hut.

WHAT TO BRING: FOOD, WATER, BEACH CHAIRS, BEACH SHEET / BLANKET / TOWEL, JACKETS, FLASHLIGHTS (highly recommended if you want to find your stuff at the end of the evening), casual beach attire /shoes, jacket / sweater for after sunset as it does cool down quickly, candles, matches, wine/beer opener, WATER, money for the amusements rides/games, food, drinks, hot beverage thermos, Frisbee, beach toys and any other items you need.  Did I mention water, beach chair, jacket and flashlight?

BASE CAMP LOCATION & BATHROOMS: South side of the pier (or left side if facing the ocean) on the sand by the stairs leading from the concert stage down to the sand / beach.  I try to get a spot as close to the stairs in the front row.  However, crowds end up sitting in front of me.   The location is on the west side of the bike path towards the ocean.  Look for a faded black PICNIC SHEET ON THE SAND, TURQUOISE BLUE COLOR HIGH BACK BEACH CHAIR WITH A CUP HOLDER AND A SMALL AMERICAN FLAG TIED ON TO A SMALL METAL POLE.  Can't miss us, we are regulars.  Bathrooms are located 1) on the pier at the other side of the stage and 2) nicer bathrooms at the far end of the pier by the amusement rides and water cooler.  DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES UNATTENDED AT OUR BASE CAMP ON THE SAND.  Chairs and coolers are usually ok to leave at our base camp, however; I’m not personally responsible for them if they go missing!

Option #1. Santa Monica Promenade parking structure on 2nd Street and Colorado (across the street from McDonalds) flat fee after 5:00 p.m. for $5.00 using self service credit card & cash kiosks located at every floor.  To avoid the end of the evening pay lines, pay at the nearest kiosk on your floor after you park your car and before heading to the beach site.  Recommend entering the parking structure from the 2nd Street (not Colorado) entrance.  Walk down Colorado to the pier ramp and continue down the ramp to the carousel and walk around the carousel to the board walk. Continue to the volleyball courts, walking along the concrete walking path adjacent to the volleyball courts/bleachers, continue across the bike path, (be careful of speeding cyclists) and look for the 2nd set of stairs leading to the pier.  We are near these stairs and look for our "base camp" near the bottom of the stairs.  Look for a faded BLACK PICNIC SHEET ON THE SAND and turquoise color high back beach chair with cup holder with an American Flag tied to the chair.

Option #2 free meter parking after 6:00 p.m. (if available as meters fill up prior to 6:00 p.m.) is located on Colorado, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th etc,.   Main Street by the Rand Corporation.  Walk down Colorado where it deadends at the pier ramp and continue down the ramp to the carousel and walk around the carousel to the board walk. Continue on the concrete walkway adjacent to the volleyball courts, continue across the bike path, (be careful of speeding cyclists) and look for the 2nd set of stairs leading to the pier.  We are near these stairs and look for our "base camp" near the bottom of the stairs.  Look for a faded BLACK PICNIC SHEET ON THE SAND and turquoise color high back beach chair with cup holder with an American Flag tied to the chair.

Option #3 Adjacent Beach Pier Parking Lot $10.00 (closer to our base camp): Located on the beach level on the north side of the pier.  Parking lot access from Ocean Avenue and Pico. Take Pico to the end and turn RIGHT on a little side street called "Appian" (by the hotels Shutters on the Beach and Casa Del Mar). Continue to the dead-end and go LEFT.  Parking booths straight ahead, can't miss them. DO NOT PARK IN THE SMALL SELF SERVE PARKING LOTS ON APPIAN WAY AS CARS WILL BE TICKETED & TOWED AT SUNSET.  Park in the parking lot on the sand and walk on the bike path under the pier to the south side of the pier.  You will see people picnicking on the sand.  Our base camp is located near the stairs leading from the stage to the sand. Can't miss us.

Option #4 Bicycling. The City of Santa Monica also offers free bicycle valet service on the bike path by the volleyball courts, (bring your bike locks), optional tips $$$$ are recommended for the bicycle valets.

Look forward to seeing as many of you that can attend this summer.

Peace, Love, Happiness and Good Heath,

Barbara  [masked]
