Are pleased to invite you to a
Day of Mindfulness
In the Tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh
Led by Venerable Brother Thich Chan Huong Hue
Sunday, February 22, 2009
In Davie, FL
From 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

Venerable Brother Thich Chan Huong Hue is a Monastic Dharma Teacher who was ordained as a Buddhist monk by Zen Master Thich Nhẩt Hạnh (Thây) in Plum Village, France, in 1992. He currently serves as the Abbott of Tu Viện Hương Hải, a Vietnamese Buddhist Monastery in Florida.

This Plum Village-style Day of Mindfulness (DOM), conducted in English and Vietnamese, will provide a wonderful opportunity for those who want to deepen their mindfulness practice with time for reflection and silence in the tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhẩt Hạnh. Throughout the day, we will enjoy periods of sitting and walking meditation, chanting, and mindful movements, as well as Deep Relaxation, a Dharma Talk and Dharma Sharing from the four-fold Sangha. We will also enjoy a traditional Vietnamese lunch lovingly prepared by the monastic and lay Sanghas. Additionally, there will be an opportunity for those who wish to formally take the 5 Mindfulness Trainings to do so at the end of the day. You are welcome to join us for dinner afterwards.

Please arrive before 8:00 A.M. so you can relax, absorb the peaceful beauty of the natural surroundings, and help the Sangha set up for the day. Please respect and appreciate Noble Silence during the duration of the formal activities of the day. An opportunity for sharing and mindful conversation will be provided towards the end of the DOM.

This event is free an open to all practitioners. However, your generosity in providing a donation or Dana for the monastic and lay Sanghas is gratefully accepted and encouraged. Your kind donation to our community of practitioners helps the Sangha defray the costs associated with this DOM and supports our activities. Keep in mind that the day includes two meals - please try to contribute appropriately.

Thich Nhẩt Hạnh's CDs, DVDs, books, and Sangha T-Shirts with his calligraphy will be available during the DOM.

To register, please e-mail our organizer. Directions and a list of what to bring will be sent to all registered participants. Please register as soon as possible so we can plan the meals for the day. Also, let us know whether you wish to formally receive the 5 Mindfulness Trainings so we can make the appropriate preparations for the formal Transmission Ceremony.

We had a wonderful opportunity to come together as a Sangha and practice mindfulness amidst beautiful natural surroundings. We enjoyed two very relevant Dharma talks that helped us reduce suffering and were immediately applicable to our daily lives regarding the Bodhisattva's Practice of Deep Listening and our ongoing series on Embracing and Transforming Strong Emotions with Mindfulness. Two children received the Two Promises and five adults received transmission of the 5 Mindfulness Trainings.

This an important day to have. To re-mind me of the principles, the steps to take on the path to enlightenment. To re-mind me to have a happy life and let go of the fear, anger, attachment. I thank you for sharing this day with us, the lay practitioner.

I enjoyed the opportunity for a retreat. I found the day too long and would have appreciated it if more peole wanted to hold the silence to deepen the experience. I am grateful for the efforts of the Abbot, the Monks and Nuns and the lay people who ran it, Martha and Tony.
