The purpose of this group is to increase the amount of chess played in the Louisville area.  The Kentucky Chess Association (http://www.kcachess.org/) already organizes a significant amount of chess all throughout Kentucky.  My hope is that this Meetup group will get the word out to a larger number of people and increase the opportunity for more tournaments and more open play.

Some of the tournaments posted will be rated by the US Chess Federation and would require membership to play (http://www.uschess.org).  Any event requireing USCF membership will have USCF in the title, and the fact that membership is required will be repeated in the description.  Events not requiring USCF membership will be denoted as "OPEN".  All USCF tournaments will normally require a fee to be paid and normally have a cash prize, non-USCF events usually do not have a fee and are usually not organized as tournaments.  Any fees will be noted in the event description.

Since events posted on the calendar will also be advertised in many other places, the number of RSVPs will generally not be a good indicator of how many people will show up.  Most of the people at any event will likely have heard about it someplace other than Meetup.
