Experience an Introduction to Earthships and Earthbag Technology

NOTE:  Waiting List now in effect; see discussions

Many of you have expressed an interest in alternative/natural building techniques. Scott Irick (see bio below) will give a presentation on Sustainable housing and Earthen building on February 26.  We will have some "visit" time prior to the presentation which will start at 7, then a question and answer session following. We are not allowed to have food or drink in the meeting room.  Please RSVP, this will be a popular topic and seating is limited by the library.

Louisville native Scott Irick has spent the last decade as a filmmaker traveling the world making feature films, TV shows, commercials, and documentaries. His most recent credits include co-producer and co-editor of the award winning environmental documentary Your Environmental Road Trip (YERT). Inspired by all he had learned while making the film, and excited to get his hands dirty, Scott headed out west to explore sustainable housing and off grid living. From the mountains of Wyoming to the deserts of New Mexico Scott spent the summer and fall of 2012 building Earthships (a type of sustainable home) and getting a hands on education in building with earth and recycled materials. Scott will give an introductory presentation on these topics and share his experiences, as well as plans to bring more earthen building to the bluegrass region.

I thought the presenter did a good job of giving an overview of earthship construction.

Great to hear and see about this beautiful form of dwelling, and to know that some initial small-scale projects are already in the works for this area!

The presentation was tight; but I expect that from a professional presenter. Did anybody get his email address? Please let me know what it is if you have it. Thanks

I would like to build my own cob house, and I'm very interested in alternative sustainable building.

I'm really interested in this and also rocket mass heaters that work in conjunction with these structures quite well.
