Hog Harvest Part 2

  • Dec 21, 2013 · 8:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Day two of the harvest will be assisting the Amish farmer as he breaks down each hog into separate cuts. Each hog takes about an hour or so. We will meet at my home first and then travel to the Amish farm. Afterwards everyone is invited back to my small farm where I will fire up my newly constructed wood fired oven and have lunch.

We're on out way but running late, will be at your house by 8:30. If you head out before that, can you either post their address here or leave a note on your door. Thanks.

I would expect that the killing and skinning on Friday will end around 1 or 2 and we will head back to my place for R&R after that.

On Saturday we start a little earlier, as the Amish will begin butchering more or less at sunup. Since there are three hogs to process if we arrive at his place between 8 and 9 there will still be plenty to see and do. I would expect the butchering to end between 12 and 1 and lunch to follow.

The weather report is rainy but the butchering will be done indoors and most of the killing and skinning we can do without getting wet.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible this upcoming weekend at the hog harvest! As only a portion of the day's activities will be at my farm, and another portion will be at my Amish friend's place, I need to stick pretty closely to the start time as I can't just phone him and tell him we are running late.

Please update the RSVP to reflect your attendance, as I will be preparing food ahead of time and a good headcount will be appreciated.
