Vegetarian for 13 years, vegan for 2.
I am at peace living in alignment with my values of love and non-violence directed toward all beings.
I changed my lifestyle after reading the story of a cow sent to slaughter whose pelvis was broken on the transport truck. Instead of being humanely euthanized, she was dragged by a machine to the "dead pile" where she lay for the next 8 hours, suffering in agony. I realized at that moment that even routine practices of animal agriculture were inherently violent and that these sentient beings were only seen and treated as commodities. 5 years later, I would break my pelvis in a skydiving accident and learn, firsthand, how painful that injury is. Fortunately, I didn't have to lay in the hot sun on top of my dead and dying family members! Today, I recognize the atrocities committed against other beings as a purely social justice issue that parallel the struggles of women and enslaved persons. I enjoy my meals so much more now that they don't taste like fear, violence, and suffering!

Very friendly people who engaged in conversation with most, if not all, attendees.
