I've updated this Meetup to include two presentations. Don't forget we meet at LVL1 this month. (That's practically around the corner from Peak 10, in the rear of 814 Broadway.)
Our program will include presentations on:Websockets Better than AJAX!
presented by Jim Troy.
Websockets is a new standard, included in HTML5, that allows two-way communications (push and pull) between web browser and server without the overhead of HTTP. Read about it at Wikipedia
.Tiny Core Linux Linux for the minimalist!
presented by Aaron VerDow.
Tiny Core Linux is a very small (10 MB) minimal Linux GUI Desktop that is also unusually stable: Every time Tiny Core loads, it is brand-spanking new. Instead of installing programs into the system file space and risking damage to the system files, Tiny Core uses program 'extensions' that are re-prepared at each reboot. (A variant, Micro Core, is a 6MB non-graphic cli version.)
In addition, we'll be talking about our plans for:Software Freedom Day, September 18 Stand up for the freedom to tinker
Come and take a look at LVL1, where we'll be holding Software Freedom Day in ten more days. There's plenty of room there to claim a table and set up your own exhibit/presentation for the event. Aaron VerDow is coordinating our plans with LVL1, and we already have several folks planning tables, but the more the merrier!
