Meetup details changed: The Louisville Open Source Programming Meetup Group Monthly Meetup

John H.
Group Organizer
Louisville, KY
Our monthly KYOSS meeting tonight (Wednesday) is shaping up to be a good one. (We meet at 6:30 at LVL1 Hackerspace, 814 E. Broadway (rear).)

  • Aaron VerDow will tell us how to remaster Knoppix to fit your particular needs. (He'll probably also show us the "Mission Control" at LVL1 which he helped set up using Knoppix for the White Star Balloon Project.

  • Barton Chittendon will lead a discussion and planning session for the legacy media server he has proposed we build and house at LVL1: With at least one device for each media type, it will allow anyone to convert their old 8" or 5-1/4" floppies (or 3-1/2" diskettes or ...) to something that can actually be read on a modern computer!

  • Ben Fitzpatrick will tell us what's new in Ubuntu 11.4 based on his use of 11.4 Beta. The production version is due out any day now!

  • Ron Wechsler will give us an update of KIPCUG's project to recondition PCs (in the basement of LVL1), install Linux, and give the reconditioned PCs to deserving young people. They'll soon begin a series of classes at branches of the Louisville Free Public Library to teach the use of Linux and Linux-based applications. People passing the course will be presented with their own PC. (And yes, this would be a great and fun way for all of us to make ourselves useful and give back a little!)

  • Aaron promises to bring and show us his sumo-bot, one of many being built at LVL1 for competition in the sumo-bot ring. These are challenging projects, involving assembling hardware, sensors, motors, microprocessor, etc. and programming it to push the other sumo-bots out of the ring!

  • You are welcome to bring your own project or presentation. Thanks to LVL1, we have the use of a wonderful facility that includes PC projectors.

Free refreshments are served at 6:30 sharp! Be there or miss out!

Program starts at 7:00 sharp.

LVL1 is at the rear of 814 E. Broadway, between Logan and Shelby. You can park in the ORI parking lot on Logan and cross the alley to the LVL1 entrance.

See you there!
