Whoever heard of a chicken egg being part of a great masterpiece?

Or a poisonous beetle's wings being used to create one of the loveliest shades of red?

Which is the pigment which was deemed so beautiful, it was more expensive than gold?

How does an artist's style change when the eyesight is not as good as it used to be?

And without which invention would Impressionism never have happened?

This tour will be dedicated to exploring some of these questions and discovering fascinating stories behind the three main painting techniques used by the Old Masters - Fresco, Tempera and Oil.

I just wondered why it should cost £10 to attend this?

I am sure you'll enjoy it and learn a lot too. We'll be following up with tea and cakes at the National Gallery cafe if you want to stay on and socialise. If the meetup does not happen because of low numbers I will of course refund your payment, or re-schedule or both.
