I see 95 people attending, how feasible is it going to be for 95 people to be shooting the same cannon at the same moment? Also assuming most people will want to use a wider angle to get the city view in the background. I feel like even if half the people don't show up it'll be too crowded to take a picture.

I will miss the very first one so freeing up my spot, I hope you'all have a wondeful time.
I was also there last night and this is what I got http://bit.ly/Pi8bF5
Before the Cannon triggers there are series of lights that goes On, First 2 flashing yellow lights for 10 seconds and then the Light in the building that houses the cannon goes off and a red light in the building turns on. And then the Gun fires. I started my first 25 second exposure when the yellow lights went on, but I was done with the shot before the cannon fired, And then another 25 second exposure, and finally I got it on the 3rd one. I hope that gives you a rough idea. I would suggest you start to shoot when the red light goes on.

There is a ten second warning buzzer and blinking lights so you can set up for a 30 second long exposure shutter get a great shot of the fire and smoke blasting from the mouth of the canon. But the best time to get that with a great sunset shot of the city is around late July when there is still some blue light in the sky. Right now it's very dark at 9 PM but you could try some multiple exposure HDR stuff to combine an earlier shot. Just an idea....

Barry, I missed the firing of the gun when we were there for Earth Hour.....Thanks to Confusion Circle for sharing this info with me.....The red light/audible buzzer begins 10 seconds before the gun fires. A yellow light on top of the little stone pedestal where the plaque is will flash either 30 seconds or 1 minute before.

Awesome, should be the perfect time of year to balance the flash of the gun with the city backdrop. Here's one I took in May:
Tide will be high at 9:00pm on the 31st so we'll probably only be able to shoot from the pathway or above.
