July 4th Fireworks Kayak & Picnic!

Thank you Eric Burns of Marshgrass Adventures for volunteering to bring us out this night!

We will paddle off into the Sunset in kayaks, watch the Fireworks, then paddle back in the dark.

Plus for those who would like a little food beforehand, we will meet at the landing early for a potluck picnic.

6:00 pm POTLUCK PICNIC  Depending on the # of people doing this, we can setup a table with water view and bring folding chairs (there is 1 bench).  I am vegan vegetarian, so not interested in a grill for hotdogs, etc, but if one of you wants to organize this, please feel free to.  Otherwise, I recommend keeping it simple:  bring prepared food to share (salads, cut up fruit, chips, etc).  I will provide paper plates, napkins, forks and possibly a folding table.  You bring a dish to share, serving utensils for your dish, and a folding chair.  Please post what you are bringing so we have an idea of what else to bring...

7:45 pm FIREWORKS KAYAK   We will launch shortly after 8:00pm, so please arrive NO LATER than 7:45pm.  New or weak kayakers will need to be paired up in Tandems (double) kayaks.

WEAR YOUR HEAD LAMP (straps around head with a light on your forehead - get at Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart).  Marshland Road Boat Landing is to the LEFT of the Old Oyster Factory Restaurant (101 Marshland Road, Hilton Head).

If you are a beginner, or never paddled with us before, I need you to call me, Nancy at[masked].  Beginners, or weaker paddlers, will probably need to be paired up on tandem (double) kayaks.  You also need to be able to sit in a kayak for 2 hours.

There are 13 Single Kayaks and 5 Tandem Kayaks available for rent with a 14 boat max on the trailer.

"Bring your own boaters" are welcome!

REMEMBER:  NO RENTAL PHONE CALL TO ME = NO RENTAL KAYAK!

PRICES (Please bring EXACT CHANGE in cash):

$25 per person for single rentals (includes all equipment).

$25 per person for tandem rentals (includes all equipment).

$5 Guide Service Fee per Person if you have your own boat.

Tips to our guides are always appreciated.

Ok, so who is attending the Potluck? So far it's me and Vanessa that I know of. I know Angela isn't. And for those attending, what are your allergies/preferences? And what are you thinking of bringing?

Hello .....I'd like to join the group for the paddle and I do have my own boat. I have been a paddler for several years so I do believe I'll be able to keep up.....lol
I'd like to bring a guest or two to the picinic and bring some good food choices for the group potluck....I do not believe they want to do any boating....is that ok? ....and what sounds good and for how many??? I do make a mean (as in good) fourth of july dessert....pasta salad....cheese tray....

    July 2, 2013

    • Lisa H.

I read some of the postings....looks like someone is bringing pasta salad....how about a cheese and fruit tray...crackers...etc????

      July 2, 2013

    • Vanessa P.

Lisa, you could bring pasta salad, if there are 8 people and only one pasta salad it might get eaten up.

      July 4, 2013

  • michelle

Nancy, I'm bringing a tagalong with own gear, Eric is letting her use a paddle but she will have a boat so no boat needed. Wont b doing potluck - going to a pig roast...

    July 2, 2013

    • Nancy

Jeff are you brining your own boat? If you need a Rental, you must call me!

      July 3, 2013

  • Kevin

Nancy, Kevin here. I've got a situation that is going to prevent us from coming Thursday evening. So there are 4 of us that won't be there.

    July 2, 2013

  • Nancy

Lisa, bring what ever you want, but be warned, not everyone can eat everything, so don't have your feeling hurt if only a some of the people eat your food! LOL. (You may want to read all the posts). This must be the stangest potluck yet... Everyone is bringing their own drinks too. Don't stress it too much Lisa. All your ideas are good. Look forward to meeting you, and the others too!

    July 2, 2013

  • Nancy

As of Tuesday morning, the forecast for July 4th looks great! Day = 30%, Night = partly cloudy and 20%!

Kristen you are in - I will call you this morning. Robin is still waiting if anyone cannot make it, please let me know asap.

    July 2, 2013

  • Nancy

Current Weather for July 4th (although too early to be accurate), is 50% change of rain during the day, and 20% chance during the evening/night. Will post weather again tomorrow, but this is looking good!

Kristen- Hang in there, there is a very good chance of getting you a boat for Thursday! Hopefully I will be able to let you know tomorrow!

Nancy--is Eric's business on HHI? I ask cuz I'm looking for a lot to park the trailor with 2 canoes/kayak for Thursday. The condo parking lot would be tough. Can I contact him? Any suggestions.

    July 1, 2013

    • Nancy

He currently keeps his boats at his house in Bluffton. He is a member so you can reach him thru email or his sponsorship website on our home page.

      July 1, 2013

I just joined this group. Do you still have kayaks available? We would love to join you guys.

    Hi Nancy,

    July 1, 2013

  • Nancy

Btw- did you know that our Super Full Moon paddle was 60% chance of rain? Turned out great!

    June 30, 2013

  • Nancy

Way too early to worry about weather on the 4th. The 5th is 30% scattered shower so can change rapidly. Last Saturday we had a hike scheduled and 3 days before it was 80% rain. It turned out to be a beautiful sunny morning. No worries Michelle. We are watching it. I think fireworks are rain or shine. There are other possibilities if kayaking is no good, but we are far from that!

    June 30, 2013

  • michelle

Umm, has anyone looked at weather for Thursday evening? Hmmmm... Hope we get lucky, but if its rained out, is there a back up day for fireworks?

    June 30, 2013

  • Vanessa P.

I am going to bring a mini-barbeque which will cook 4 burgers at a time. If anyone would like to use my bbq they are more than welcome. I will try to make homemade apple pie but if I don't get around to it I'll bring choc chip cookies.

    June 29, 2013

  • Cheryl B.

I am thinking maybe a pasta salad.

    June 25, 2013

  • Nancy

Lol! This potluck is sounding pretty interesting! As diversified as our members! Michelle- please do bring a little extra for others to try!

    June 25, 2013

  • michelle

Well, I said no cuz I can't have wheat, soy, or dairy...lol figured I was too much to figure around so i'd just make some gluten free stuff for me, cuz its kinda ...well, an acquired taste lol!

    June 25, 2013

  • Nancy

Karla, I will put you down for a single and your Son and daughter in-law as BYO Boaters. I'm sure canoe is fine, but I will double check with Eric.

    June 25, 2013

    • Nancy

      It's $5 / person for BYOB. I'll change your RSVP to +2

      June 25, 2013

  • Vanessa P.

I have allergies as well so probably it would be best if people know what ingredients are in their food or else bring the packaging.

    June 25, 2013

  • michelle

Hmm this doesn't seem to have posted so trying again... I have special diet restrictions due to allergies so I will skip potluck....:-) but can't wait for another night paddle, esp after our supermoon excursion! Fun!

    June 25, 2013

  • angela h.

Hi Nancy--Fireworks sounds like fun--so we will NOT be there for the potluck but I will have 5 guests. We will need 3 tandem boats. Looking forward to seeing you. Angela

    June 24, 2013

    • Nancy

Angela, I don't have 3 tandems left! Call me ASAP.

      June 24, 2013

    • Nancy

Angela- Sally canceled so you now have 2 tandems and 2 singles. Very important is to let me know if you are not going to make it since you have so many boats!

      June 25, 2013

  • Sally K.

My friends did not want to drive to Hilton for the fireworks, so I am canceling. That will give you one more tandem kayak.

    June 24, 2013
