NAMI Beaufort County Walk

Fellow member Norma Van Amberg is on the board of NAMI Beaufort County (National Alliance on Mental Illness), and is setting up a team named FAMILY AND FRIENDS for their 5K (3 mile) walk / fund raiser. To join Norma's Team and/or make a donation, please visit:

http://namiwalks.nami.org/NormaV

No donation is needed to show support for NAMI's work, but every donation, no matter how small, is much appreciated and put to good use.

Walkers need to arrive at Coligny Circle starting at 8:30 am and check in.  You will then look for Norma's Family and Friends sign to join her, near the swings area. Cross Fit warmup and music by The Islandeers. Hotdog style lunch afterwards, thanks to generous sponsors. Water stations provided on the beach, and people can walk/run as much as they want for the 5K.

From Norma and the NAMI Website:

"Research finds that one of four people in the U.S. is affected by a mental illness. That means about 38,000 people in Beaufort County."

"NAMIWalks for the Mind of America is an annual nationwide fundraising and mental health awareness program held in over 70 communiies around the country, including right here in Beaufort County. Locally, we plan to raise $60,000 for NAMI Beaufort County to help us provide mental health services to hundreds of families in our county. Walker Check-in Time: 8:30am, Official Walk Start Time: 10:00am. Distance: 5K (3 miles), Rain or Shine!"

The Family and Friends Team photo is scheduled for 9:05 a.m. at Coligny Beach Park, near the swings. Please wear a white T. That's a good time to be there to avoid last minute parking hassle for the 10 a.m. walk on the beach.
Again, thank you to those who have registered/donated online. I will have a captain's envelope for on-site donations of cash or checks. No registration fee but donations of any amount are appreciated (and needed to continue NAMI programs).
It should be a great fall day for our 5K walk on the beach. Water stations available. Cross Fit will be doing warmup exercises.

Thanks Mark and to all who will join me Sat. I'm back from my sister's funeral in GA. She was in recovery from major depression but had health issues, including a damaged heart.
Beach parking lot is off Pope Avenue, near the Coligny Circle. Please wear a white T shirt for the Family and Friends team.
