Hike and Picnic at Caw Caw

  • This location is shown only to members

Let's hike 3 different loops of Caw Caw for a total of 6-7 miles, followed by a picnic lunch!  The Charleston Hiking & Climbing Group has been invited to join us as well!

For those who want to walk less, you may pull up after completing any loop and enjoy the Caw Caw Nature & History Interpretive Center until the rest of the group is done.

Afterwards, let's sit at the picnic tables and enjoy lunch before heading home.

We'll meet by the Nature & History Interpretive Center at 10am.  There is a $1/person entrance fee (cash)

Please make sure to post where you will be meeting us and if you want to drive or catch a ride.  And if catching a ride with someone, be sure to give your driver some cash for gas.  Recommended from Bluffton, $10.  From Beaufort $7.

BLUFFTON:  We will meet in the middle of the parking lot near Outback Steakhouse (100 Buckwalter Pkwy, Bluffton) at 7:50am.  Leaving at 8:00am sharp, and head to Beaufort.

BEAUFORT:  We will meet in the Belk's parking lot, near the Sonic (332 Robert Smalls Pkwy, Beaufort) at 8:30.  Leaving at 8:35am sharp.

I genuinely enjoyed my first adventure with the group and I am excited about the ones in the near future that I may be able to attend.

Nancy, If I already RSVP'd Yes from Charleston Hiking and Climbing - you don't want me to duplicate that here, do you?

Oh that is plenty of time. I doubt I will have to work but even if I do it won't be until like 7pm. I enjoy driving the coastal area

What is the estimated return time because I may have to wk Saturday evening?

    January 24, 2013

    • Nancy

Really don't know return time, but probably 2:30. - 4:30. You should definately drive if you are going to be rushed. I believe you are driving from Savannah, so quickest way for you is probably driving straight there. That way you won't be forced into driving people back to Bluffton on the way home...

    • Nancy

      Better estimate is 2:00 - 3:00

I am new to this, but I intend on going. I would like to carpool but prefer to drive my car. Bluff ton is closest to me but any passenger has to be good with riding with the top down once it warms up enough otw. I am stoked about finally meeting some people in the area that are passionate about the outdoors.

Great Paige! Make sure my phone # is in your cell. In fact why don't you send me a text or give me a quick call so I have your never too. Please be on time, in Belk's parking lot near the sonic...

Darn auto text, meant "your number" not "your never".

Wooo Hooo! Each day the weather forecast improves! Maybe by Saturday it will be 69 degrees! Currently at 59 with 20% rain, but a week ago was at 48 and 30%! Looks like will have a large group, currently at 89 people between the two groups, but most of those from Charleston have never attended a meetup before, so there is a good chance estimated 30% won't show! You guys are great about your RSVP'ing - THANK YOU! They are a large group, with almost 1300 members and growing.

We have a few people meeting us in Bluffton for the carpool/follow and it's easy to find each other at Outback. In Beaufort we have at least 1 person (Deborah) meeting us. Beaufort is a larger lot, so please make sure you have my # in your phone if you are meeting us there. Deb, I know you already have it. Others are meeting us at Caw Caw.

Remember your BYO Picnic, your $1 entrance fee, and don't bring your dog even on a leash. See you Saturday!

Great Cheryl, but everyone needs to remember that several people will have to drive and there are no guarantees that you will fit into someone else's car. Everyone should have their cars gassed up in case they do need to drive. If you do get to catch a ride with someone, be generous with the gas money since they also endure wear and tear. This always seems to work out, but we will need 4-5 drivers from our area...

Saturday's Caw Caw adventure looks like it will be well attended. Between the 2 groups, over 60 people have signed up! It looks like it will be a cooler day (hopefully around 50) so dress warmly and don't forget your BYO Picnic. With the cooler temps and such a large group, I think BYO is better suited than potluck. Caw Caw is NOT dog friendly since it is bird and other creature friendly. As always, if you cannot attend the event, make sure to change your RSVP to NO. It helps us alot. Hopefully the temperature will warm up for us by Saturday! I'll keep you posted!
