Boundary Bay Dyke Trail (On Bikes)

  • May 26, 2013 · 9:00 AM

Let's cycle/geocache our way along the water on the Boundary Bay Dyke Trail. There is a newly published power trail (55 caches!) plus several older caches along this 17km route.

We'll meet at the corner of 17A Ave & Beach Grove Rd in Tsawwassen (9am) and begin our day at the end of the power trail (GC3K45W).  On bikes, we'll get much more of this trail completed than we would have on foot. Feel free to join for as little of the trail or as much of the trail as you want. You can turn back at any time. Those who want to geocache into the afternoon should pack a lunch. We'll stop and eat at one of the great viewpoints along the way.

Anyone new to geocaching is welcome to attend, with or without equipment.  Ahead of time, you may want to set up an account on and browse the website.  Geocaching requires the use of either a handheld GPSr device or an app on your smartphone.  I highly recommend an app, simply called "Geocaching", for anyone geocaching with an iPhone.  It costs $10 but it is the best ten bucks I've ever spent on an app.  I have an extra GPSr that I can load with the caches for this event and lend to someone.  You would have to provide two AA batteries.  Other items you may want to bring along in a small bag/backpack:  pen, flashlight, tweezers, gloves, small trinkets to trade for items found in the geocaches.

What's the trail like? I have a road bike only at the moment, so can't do an off-road sort of trail.
