Eat around the world: The Netherlands

Time to eat some real Dutch food for a change ! J

The final shoppings have been made in the Netherlands yesterday and it will hopefully be a typical Dutch winter meal:

Erwtensoep with Fries Roggebrood, pancakes as desert and Stroopwafels to go along with the coffee/tea, "dat wordt smullen" ;)!

Your challenge: "WHAT WOULD YOU PUT ON YOUR PANCAKE?!" Bring along something you would like to try/eat on a pancake, I will at least provide Hagelslag, "Dutch sugar sirop" and for those who dare Peanutbutter... (Yes, you can also eat that with a pancake...)

Some formal points: please bring your own drinks. As we pay rent for the room (all facilities are there: plates, glasses, etc) thanks to pay Fr. ca 8.-- per person, additional costs made for the food will follow at the time

As some of you know it is a great occasion to gather together and talk in a cosy place, 13h apéro with at least some Dutch cheese and after that we will start with the lunch !

Rien

PS: thanks to everybody to help arrange the room and kitchen afterwards (there is a dishwasher)

We are also looking for a place like a club room with kitchen in the city of Lucerne to make Eat around the world happen again. Sentitreff is nice, but it costs Fr. 120.-- per half day. Who has an idea ?

Many thanks to Rien for being a great host. Nice to meet those I've read so much about from other events but until today never actually met in person.

Dear everyone - I have started to walk again and hope to make it tomorrow, but no guarantee. Would probably not stay too long but would like to get a feel of what "Dutch" is. Will bring orange napkins!

Do not forget to bring Tupperware to take home the rests in case we cannot eat it all. And bags for empty bottles, that we also have to take out again.

Wow all mails that people sent via Meetup landed in my "spam emails" since january...strangely enough...., I am so sorry about that if you didn't get any news from me, it was because of that. Rien all is ok now I saw your message.

sounds good, would like to come.....should I bring some German beer...or do you prefer Heineken?

    January 7, 2013

    • Rien

well, in the Netherlands most people do not really like the Heineken beer very much, ruins the Dutch beer image, haha...;-) German beer sounds great, that will be a nice addition! Cheers ;)!

    • Viola

I also don't understand why Heineken got so powerful. There is a beer shop in the station, maybe they have other sorts of Beers from Netherland.

The idea of Eat around the World is to taste food from different countries. in springtime I will organise again a swiss farm place to eat Aelplermaggronen.
