Seeking great books, smart conversation and fascinating people. Recently relocated away from NYC for work. But still a supporter of this group, and will visit when I can.
Exactly how a philosophy group should be done. For the main Lyceum Meetups: quality readings are assigned and discussed over multiple sessions. There are limited event sizes for maximum participation. The lead organizer is knowledgeable and guides, not hogs, the conversation. There is a genuine desire on everyone's part to understand the material. Everyone is given the floor to share their thoughts. For the once-a-month discussions in partnership with the NYC Public Philosophy Network: truly some of the best conversations I've ever had, with an outstanding group of people. Frankly I'm astounded this exists. If you want to explore actual philosophy with others, this is the *perfect* place in which to do it.
