By the early 16th century Art no longer served the Church exclusively, rich and powerful patrons want art to decorate their palaces and show off their learning. Venice becomes the centre of sumptuous and often erotic mythological scenes and is distinguished by rich colouring made possible by the availability of exotic pigments form far flung corners of the Roman Empire. Artists become the celebrities of their day.

We will look at Titian, Veronese, Giorgione and others.

As I mentioned I normally have choir practice on Weds, apart from occasional breaks. This will continue until December so I think you should count me out for now. I really enjoyed your session last week so hope all goes well with the course.
