Longwood Gardens Macro and Fireworks Photography http://www.longwoodgardens.org

Fine, fine, fine time to exercise your macro photography.

Here's a map!

http://www.longwoodgardens.org/docs/LWG_OutdoorMap2011.pdf

The outdoor waterlily display comes alive with more than 100 types of day and night-blooming tropical waterlilies, hardy day-bloomers, lotus, and other aquatic plants. Delights abound in the Rose and Topiary Gardens—with scented blooms and the precision geometry of clipped yew. The Flower Garden Walk overflows with annuals during the summer, and the deep calm of forest paths offer a cool respite.

Longwood's Conservatory is one of the world's great greenhouse structures. It shelters 20 indoor gardens and 5,500 types of plants. The Conservatory was built in 1919 and has been periodically expanded and renovated. At present, there are 195,668 square feet—or 4.5 acres—of covered display, production, and research greenhouses.

A leisurely stroll through the display areas takes about 1½ hours and covers about ½ mile.

THEN

Get ready for an evening of oohs and ahhs, as Longwood presents spectacular fireworks and fountains shows guaranteed to make your summer memorable.

Celebrate America with well-known patriotic favorites, including John Philip Sousa's The Stars & Stripes, Richard Rodgers' Victory at Sea, Irving Berlin's God Bless America, and more.

Enjoy an evening of American music classics with Summer Pops featuring the music of Leroy Anderson. Fountains and fireworks dance to Anderson’s most loved works, including Blue Tango, The Syncopated Clock, Promenade, Sleigh Ride and our fantastic finale, Home Stretch.

It’s a Stravinsky ‘Stravaganza featuring famous works by the celebrated Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. From the infamous Rite of Spring, to the powerful Petrushka, to the dazzling Firebird finale, this is a show you won’t forget.

Guests may reserve a space in the Gardens after 3:00 pm. For the best viewing experience, guests are encouraged to bring a lightweight folding chair or rental chairs can be purchased for $5 each while supplies last. In our efforts to create the best Fireworks and Fountains experience for all attendees, BLANKETS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED.

In the event of inclement weather, every effort will be made to set off Fireworks as scheduled—however, a rain date is scheduled for the display.

The fee includes an abridged macro/firework photography class and admission to the gardens and the fireworks.

This was a great class/excursion. I learned a lot and got to actually practice everything I learned. The members are real nice and had a good time with everyone that I met. Will definitely go to another one of Micheal's excursions.

    Michael,

I've never been to the gardens so please forgive the dumb questions:

    1) Is there a place where we could store our tripod/chair until the evening show? I ask because some places won't let you back in after you leave. Is leaving it in the car an option?
    2) What time are we meeting? 12 pm at the visitor's center?
    3) How does reserving a seat work? Do we have to stay at the location or do we get to reserve it and then wander to continue doing photography?
    4) Any recommendations on lenses?

    Thanks!

      1) You are allowed to exit and come back in so your car is the best place to store your items. 2)12 noon at the visitor's center. 3)Your chair placement reserves your spot. 4) Your favorite macro.

Michael - I won't get there until around 3 - my daughter is coming home Friday night for a very short visit. I'll text you when I arrive to see where we can meet. Will the ticket thing be an issue? I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I'm looking forward to this one which is why I don't want to cancel. Deb

No worries. If you text me when you get close I'll meet you at the gate. Bring a chair for the fireworks and be prepared to claim your spot when you arrive. People start staking their claim around that time.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
