Photowalk at the Bronx Zoo

We will be doing a photowalk through the zoo photographing animals as they exist in a simulated natural environment.  I'll show you techniques for making your image look as if the animals are in the wild.

The day starts with a short 30 minute class and then the trek begins.  You can stay with me or take your own journey through the wild.  Either way, I will be at the zoo until 2:30 to provide assistance in capturing the image you had hoped for.

The fee includes admission to the zoo, the congo gorilla forest and the butterfly garden.

Space is very limited so please register early.

    Hi Michael:

Can you tell me exactly where we will be meeting on Sunday? I know there are several entrances and parking lots at the zoo (it is a big place). I had also asked below about which lenses you would recommend. Marsha and I are looking forward to it. It combines two of our favorite things, animals and photography. Thanks again,

      Hi Paul,

I send out an email 24 hours prior to meet ups with details but here you go. We'll be meeting at the Gate B entrance. That's off the Bronx River Pkwy exit 6.

As for glass, I'd bring focal lengths for 16mm-200mm. The 300mm isn't necessary but bring it for even tighter shots. The 4/3s is your call. She'll get great shots no matter what she uses.

I'm looking forward to seeing you both. Come ready to have fun.

      Sincerely,
      Michael

    Hi Michael,

My wife and I would both be interested in attending. Where are we going to meet?. Can I bring my tripod? I am planning on bringing my[masked], [masked] and my Macro 90 mm. Do you think I would need a W.A like 16-35? Would I even need my[masked]? My wife has a Nikon P&S and she would like to learn more. I am thinking about getting a micro 4/3 system as a backup to my D800 and if I get it before Sunday I may have her bring that one.

I've missed you! My move is finished and now I shop for more "stuff". Had my one on one with Sean and hopefully have the camera under control.

Hi Michael. I just joined the meetup group. I don't have a regular DSLR camera, but a bridge camera (Fujifilm SL1000). I wonder if this camera will work for me on most of your photo trips and classes? Aperture values for this camera: F2.9 / F8.4 (Wide), F6.5 / F7.8 / F19 (Telephoto). No manual focus. It does have manual mode, Aperture and Shutter priority. For example, I want to shoot a subject and get a blurred background. I cant seem to get this with this camera. I would appreciate your feedback and look forward to getting involved with the group. Thanks.

      Hi Maria,
Sure, that'll work. I have people come on these excursions with nothing more than a cell phone camera. All are welcome no matter what the equipment, the most precious piece of equipment to have is your brain. ;-) Looking forward to meeting you have a wonderful day, Michael

Great! I will make sure to take pack my brain in my camera bag when I go to my first trip or class. ;) I wish the Bronx zoo trip was during warmer weather. Its cold in November! I am from Puerto Rico--don't handle cold weather very well :)

I'm so sad I can't go to this one! Even though they aren't playing well, I have season tickets to the giants. Very disappointed. Been waiting for this class :(
