Also referred to as environmental illness, multiple chemical sensitivity is when someone reacts negatively to chemicals and toxins. Epidemiologic studies show that about 30% of the population is sensitive to common chemicals and foods with between 3.5% and 6% seriously sensitive. Items an MCS person can be sensitive to include paints, pollens, molds, plastics, gases, synthetic fabrics, resins, beauty products, chemical cleaners and insect repellents.

In an article published in 2006, Örjan Hallberg and Gerd Oberfeld estimated that by the year 2017, 50% of the population will be electrosensitive. This estimate was extrapolated based on data collected between 1985 and 2004 that shows a steady increase in the prevalence of electrically hypersensitive (EHS) people over the years.

Sufferers of EHS experience symptoms when exposed to non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation. Symptoms vary widely, and the most commonly reported include headaches, heart palpitations/pressure in the chest, extreme fatigue, stress, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), skin symptoms ranging from rashes to burning sensations, pain, muscle aches, issues with memory and concentration, irritability, and sleep disturbances.

Many people who are MCS have been immune compromised and have found that they are also sensitive to EMF, and vice versa. In addition, chemical sensitivity and environmental illness can include or is often closely related to: food sensitivity, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, anxiety disorder, IBS, lupus, tinnitus, asthma, and sick building syndrome.

This group is a social and support group for those who have found that they are unable to tolerate many of the foods and chemicals that society takes for granted, and/or who are unable to tolerate the electrosmog that has become so insidious in our society.

If you have moderate or severe MCS, environmental illness, EHS, or sick building syndrome, and are looking for others to socialize with who understand your need for a clean environment free of perfumes, laundry detergent, other chemicals, or wifi and cellular, this group is for you.

If interested in joining, please write a description about yourself in regards to your interest in the group before applying. We reserve the right to not approve or remove individuals joining for the main purpose of promoting products or services.
