Tech talk by David Haney - "Web API Fundamentals"

David Haney is an experienced .NET developer and team lead, working in Jacksonville, FL, USA. His past accomplishments include working with Fanatics, Inc., supporting the development and rollout of a scaled, heavily trafficked .NET e-commerce web platform which leverages ASP.NET MVC. David's professional and personal experiences have harnessed a repertoire of skills which include C# .NET (1.0 through 4.5), MVC, WCF, WebAPI, parallel and dynamic programming, design patterns, inversion of control, and dependency injection. Currently, he specializes in high volume solutions created using ASP.NET MVC, and highly-available distributed computing architectures such as search engines and caching solutions. David holds a Bachelors of Computer Science from the University of Calgary, located in his home town of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. In his spare time, he likes to hang out with friends and family, sample craft beers, play video games, research new technologies, and develop personal programming projects.

Great talk. The idea of loading razor views from the web api gave me an idea of using web api to inject client side behavior asynchronously which will then further make use of the web api in a restful approach. Would like to see more.

Honestly, I could do the same thing in MVC. The only advantages I could see are the performance ones you mentioned, that the request would not go through the whole MVC pipeline. Also, if this widget we are producing is ever exposed to customers to put on their own website we could deliver all markup, css, and js, and the supporting web services through one web api.

Great presentation David, thanks a bunch!! Looking forward to the next one that is more advanced. Would also love to see you make use of load tests in VS to show the performance of node.js and your slimmed down WebAPI apps under load. :)

Tonight I'm going to claim that Web API can be as performant as Node.js, and back it with some proof. :)
