EV Gathering/Coffee Meetup

The eVgo Fast Charger at the Walgreens at 4225 Connecticut Ave. NW will NOT be online for this Meetup, but a representative from NRG will meet us at Starbucks and walk over to the Walgreens to give us an overview of the station and their services.

Parking closest to the Meetup is at the Van Ness Center Garage underground parking. Entrance is from Veazy Terrace NW which is the street right next to Walgreens.

Garage parking rates are:
$4 for 1 hour
$7 for 2 hours
$9 max for 3 hours+

There are also two Level 2 charging stations at the nearby Days Inn on the ground floor in the driveway just outside of their parking garage.

This is an informal gathering of EV enthusiasts the first Saturday of every month to meet and talk while enjoying a cup of coffee or tea.

My Volt loves the sun! Since the temps have warmed, I've been getting 10 more miles of charge. My commute is 37 mi roundtrip and last night I had 10 mi of charge left!

One more reason to be glad that spring is here! I've heard that some Volt drivers have gone more than 50 miles on a charge. It looks like you are close to that (37 +10).

Barry has said he gets 50 on his Volt. My Leaf is the same way with the warm weather. Range is rapidly improving.

Just wish that darn station was working! I'm now thinking as my car's range is buggered anyway to just pay the $40 per month and drive about 50% more, making sure to use on of their CHAdeMOs on a daily basis, if not twice; I would be getting my money's worth if it amortized to just a dollar a jolt!

I'm curious about your Leaf's range comment. Have you seen a substantial decrease in range? I haven't in mine. As the temperature warms up my range is coming back up to what it has been.

I did okay yesterday but if $40 more per month, part of it will be to return to non-hypermiled, outrageous highway speeds (69 mph on the beltway). Sure, it only saves me 5 or so minutes of my 1 hr commute but still, it'd be nice to not be the pokey LEAF.

Thanks David Holsopple and eVgo for giving us a sneak peek at the first of 40 Fast Charger Freedom Stations to be installed in the area.

Plugshare shows one of the charging stations at Days Inn in use. Is that someone from our group? I would like to charge when I get there although I can probably make it without charging if someone needs it worse than I do. Phone is[masked]

Dave, Consider stopping at the Blair Shopping Center in Silver Spring for a boost on way home.

Got to love that rarely-working, $1/hr station! :) I call it old, undependable.

    So, where should we park?

As for the eVgo site, it has the 480V quick charger, and another device under a cardboard box, which I think will be the 240V L2 charger. I didn't lift it up, but Michael said before that the location is going to be L2 and L3.

I called Days Inn and they said anybody can use the two SemaConnect Charging stations there. It is probably a good idea to confirm this at the front desk and let them know you are there. There is a fee for the charging stations. $2.50 an hour at last check.

It will be the first time I've laid hands on L3!

I'm told the charger is installed but not powered. Haven't made a recent visual inspection yet.

Jeffrey, Scott & Dave, As Mark pointed out, the Freedom Station is not going to be operational by Saturday. The good folks at eVgo had expected it to be up and running by now but there have been some unforeseen delays. The good news is that the equipment is installed and David from eVgo will be there to show us the unit and explain how it works.

How's the CHAdeMO station looking? Scott? Anyone?

      I'm checking with my contacts.

Not going to be operational :(. But, we will still get the overview.
