Our First Meetup: A Look at the MEAN.io Project

For our first meetup we will take a look at the MEAN.io project, which is maintained by Linnovate. One of our organizers, David, actually uses this stack at work and will give us an idea of how he uses it in his every day workflow.

What is MEAN.io?

MEAN is a boilerplate that provides a nice starting point for MongoDBNode.jsExpress, and AngularJS based applications. It is designed to give you quick and organized way to start developing of MEAN based web apps with useful modules like mongoose and passport pre-bundled and configured. We mainly try to take care of the connection points between existing popular frameworks and solve common integration problems.

Special thanks to Spark Labs for donating space for this event!

Agreed thanks everyone for coming. Seems like there's a lot of interest in databases with Node. I'd suggest some sort of comparisons between relational DB's and key value stores such as Mongo and how to implement each into a Node project

Thanks Jamal and David for organizing this, it cleared up some structural things i did not understand fully. Really appreciate it and the contributions made by other attendees. 2 things i wanted to ask(i'm not fully clear on) was, can we totally abandon the LAMP stack and what advantage do we get from MEAN? besides it's new, it's javascript on server and client, because in the end the app will fulfill it's intended purpose regardless of language.

Hey David, Spark Labs unfortunately does not have a large area for the MeetUp. We have actually overbooked already in consideration that many people who RSVP generally don't attend. You could come by but it potentially would be standing room only

Hey Zach, yes it has. I just sent another reminder. The reminder I sent on Monday many not have been received by everyone because I may have selected the wrong options in the MeetUp email editor.

I'll be attending this Meetup with our Social Media strategist Lola. I'd love to talk about Footmarks and share our vision. Up until this point I've built our entire back-end API server + built a management console that relies solely on it. Between the two projects, I encompass the MEAN stack. Since the RESTful Api server is just that and has no need for Angular. The management console on the other hand, is a SPA using Angular with node.js....It's a masterpiece and I dream about this stack...literally. With that said, I've been struggling keeping up with our recent piloting customers and would love to find a passionate MEAN stack developer to join our squad and become our lead. As you can tell, I'm truly passionate about this combination and I'm searching for someone who shares that. Whether you would like advice, help or discuss further about the position I'm hiring...feel free to send me and email. [masked]

    See you all soon!
