Midweek MEAN Stack meetup

Are you ready for our next meetup? We certainly are and we look forward to welcoming you all. We have had our largest turnout in May - we hope to break that record.

As always, we will have 2 talks, 30 minutes each followed by Q&A.

We will have Jhey Tompkins back - after his talk on Jade he will deliver yet another informal but very informative presentation on using gulp.js - he'll discuss the hows and whys of this streaming build system and of course, he'll also point out its pros and cons and do what he does best - live coding.

The second presentation is going to be done by Tamas Piros - who will continue with the AngularJS introduction - Part 2 is coming where he'll discuss code modularisation (and he will hopefully be able to pronounce it right this time), talk a lot more about controllers, templates, routing and if time permits custom directives and filters.

Please, also don't forget to register yourself with Skills Matter for this event - you can do that by visiting this link: https://skillsmatter.com/meetups/6413-introduction-to-gulp-js-and-angularjs (You will be provided with a badge upon arriving.)

We look forward to seeing you on this event.

Gutted I couldn't make it this week, production issue started some last-minute fires that had to be put out! I'll definitely check out the vids when they're online though. Out of curiosity, around what time do you guys wrap up beer/pizza and kick off the talks?

    • Tamas P.

Shane - we usually get started with the presentations around 6:30-6:45. Pizza & beer was available from 6. (Not sure if we'll have the free food&drink on the next meetup though, it all depends on the generosity of some companies). Each talk is about 30mins + Q&A and we wrap up by 8-8:15pm.

Great information and tips. I knew nothing about grunt, but gulp looks far better - config-driven build tools are just plain wrong!! And a good insight into using modules to split out controllers and services in the codebase. Even though Tamas wanted to use another meet to go over my Q&A question, there were still some good tips given on how I might proceed and resolve it myself. And pizza.. thanks Sky, worth my subscription to ya!

Thanks Jodi. Your question has actually lead us to recruit a new presenter so he'll hopefully address your requirements on the next meetup! Thanks for coming along - it's good to have returning members!

I am looking forward to seeing how we could apply Jade and AngularJS to our revolutionary new streaming video service based on Node.

You may want to check last month's presentation on Jade. This time we will talk about gulp.js and some other AngularJS features. :-) Go to the comments in last month's meetup to find the links to the videos.
