Hike to Giant Ledge in the Catskills

  • May 7, 2014 · 11:00 AM
  • See link below for directions to trail head

Level of hike: intermediate

Distance: 3.8 miles round trip

Terrain: Very rocky trail (but not rock scrambling) for first 0.75 mi; elevation gain of 1100 feet

What to bring: Water, snacks, lunch

Map: NY-NJ Trail Conference #42 (may be 142 in newer mapset) - Central Catskills

Relaxed pace - no one will be left behind.

The main attraction of this hike is the spectacular views from Giant Ledge, which is actually a series of eight ledges looking in various directions.  The mountains of the Central Catskills are on display!  Plan to bring an extra layer to shield you from any wind, as the ledges are quite exposed.  I plan to allow plenty of time at the ledges to drink in the views.

Although this hike is not long in distance, the rocky trail combined with elevation gain make it not be a beginner hike.

A great hike, just challenging enough, beautiful weather, spring wildflowers in bloom, a great view from the ledge.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
