Hike the Three Lakes Trail in Fahnestock State Park

Hike is appropriate for a beginner in reasonably good physical shape.  We will use the Old Mine Railroad and Three Lakes trails to make a loop which includes the John Allen and Hidden ponds.

Round trip distance:  about 5 miles

Elevation change:  not much

Terrain:  easy

We'll hike at a relaxed pace - no one will be left behind.

Fahnestock State Park lies across the border of southern Dutchess County and northern Putnam County on the east side of the Hudson.

We'll meet at the Pelton Pond parking area and carpool to the trail head, which has limited roadside parking and is not easy to spot.

Directions to the Pelton Pond parking area:

Do not attempt to use GPS for the Fahnestock address in Carmel.  This address is not in the park.  Do not use the map link above or the GPS coordinates on it.

Suggested donation:  $2 to help offset the subscription fee that meetup charges to organizers

What to bring: water, snacks, lunch

Would have loved to have joined you even as little as 5 years ago. I think I will just pull out slides and set up my screen to remember the places my get up has been.

Do you know approximately how long this hike will take?

I'd estimate 4 to 5 hours. That includes time for lunch and stopping to smell the roses.

Hi, If anyone changes their mind, I'd love to move up on the waiting list. If so, I'll take the train from Manhattan to Cold Spring. Is anyone from Manhattan doing the hike? Cheers! Marie
