Bike the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, Northern Section

  • May 21, 2014 · 11:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Now open - the bridge high above Rosendale and additional trail north of there.  Let's explore!!

We'll go to New Paltz and ride the northern section of the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, which has some views of Shawangunk cliffs, crosses the Wallkill River, and crosses a bridge high above Rosendale.

The trail is not paved, the surface being packed cinders. Either a hybrid or mountain bike will be fine.  Round trip distance is about 16 miles.  If this distance seems too much for you, you can turn around at any point to shorten the ride.

What to bring:  water, lunch/snacks, sunscreen

Suggested donation: $2 to help offset the cost of the subscription that meetup charges to organizers.

Ignore the map above and its GPS coordinates - they are not correct.

Directions to trail head:
If this parking lot is closed or full of construction equipment, we'll go to this alternative lot on Broadhead Ave:

Cancellation info: If the weather is doubtful, I'll email the "Yes" folks the evening before the hike.

Hi, Jeff-My bike is a hybrid, but the tires are definitely not wide mountain bike style. Would they be appropriate on this packed cinder trail?
