Fall Hiking at Holly Rec (Part II)

It’s time… Fall Hinking at Holly Rec!!
This is the best fall hike in southeastern Michigan!! Watch pictures of Holly Rec in Fall.

Hike the beautiful fall color Holly Rec for about 5 miles.
We will meet up at the parking lot of #18 on the trail map go round the lake from #19 clockwise twice.
So, if you come late, you can just go counter clockwise to find us.
The hike will be done at a moderate pace and we will take time to rest, relax, eat, drink, and be merry.
Stop and take pictures as many as you want. There is no need to run to catch up others. Walk at your pace.
Bring plenty of water, a snack, and some comfy shoes.

We are meeting at the parking lot with is at #18 on the trail map. Be careful, there are a lot of parking lots there.

To get to the spot from I-75:
1. Take I-75 to Grange Hall Road, turn right.
2. When Grange Hall turn to the left, stay straight and the road turns in to McGinnis.
3. From McGinnis Road you make a right into the park on the park sign "Wildwood Lakes" which it is right before the road becomes a dirt road (see the picture below). Don't make a right on the park headquarter sign which is a wrong turn.

4. Then you go straight through until you see the sign that says "Wilderness Trails and Picnic Shelter" (close to a mile). Turn left at the sign.

5. Drive little further until you will see us near the shelter of parking lot #18. If you don't see the shelter, you are in the wrong parking lot.

A good place to go is The Laundry in Fenton (about 10 miles away).

Great hike and good people to hike with. Enjoyed it very much. Would be nice to hike the Wilderness Trail (leaves from the same parking lot) in the future - - it is only a little longer at 6.4 miles.

A couple of us did that today, after the first loop. Next time just let us know ahead of time...there are usually a few people who want to mix things up.

Did about a three-mile loop around the lakes. Beautiful weather and somewhat challenging terrain for someone like me who hasn't done much hiking of late (narrow trail with lots of roots/rocks etc., and some hills) Thanks Iko for organizing!

Cool. I'll be bringing my pup too!

Oh....would love to bring my pups...but they're getting up in age. A 2 mile walk would be more tolerable to them than a 5 mile.

I'm also bringing my pooch, Molly. She's 12 weeks old and very sweet. She loves all people and other dogs.

Bobby the adventurous trail terrier will likely be along for the hike with me. Not to worry, he doesn't bite( unless you bite him first).

I've been hiking for several years and saw the posting for this rec. area which is really nice. I look forward to meeting everyone Sunday.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
