Hiking at Bald Mountain- near Lake Orion (7-8 miles, 3 hours)

  • Dec 1, 2013 · 12:00 PM

What is the plan?
Well, you start at a dirty, dusty parking lot with a bunch of like-minded lost souls who, for inexplicable reasons, chose to come out in the cold to a remote corner of a state park.  Then you walk in a 7-8 mile circle at a moderate pace through the forest in said state park, only to emerge in the same dusty parking lot.  It is a depressing and demoralizing exercise in futility, which is why we go to the bar afterwards.

Bald Mountain Info

Where do we meet?
At the parking lot on the west side of Harmon Road right where Predmore Road ends.  It is in the northeast part of Bald Mountain (maps below).

Map of Bald Mountain (meeting spot is on the northeast end)
Google map of meeting spot (Harmon and Predmore- use this to get directions)

Warning:
Do not google Bald Mountain for a map- it will take you to the headquarters.  The link above has our exact meeting spot

Costs:
This is a state park so you need the Recreation Pass on your license. If you do not have one you can stop at the headquarters to get one but there will probably be nobody there.  So, I would just park and if a ranger comes by, they will give you a ticket for $10 (the cost of the pass) and a pass to go with it.

Afterwards:
A celebratory drink and greasy nourishment at the Hamlin Pub North.  It is actually now called the Old Detroit Pub but the change was so recent that everywhere online still lists it as the Hamlin Pub North.
address: 741 South Lapeer Road, Lake Orion, MI 48362
Directions from Bald Mountain to the pub

Please bring directions with you if you plan on going to the bar afterwards.

Need help?
You can email me back or call me at[masked]-2351.

Need real help?
I am probably not qualified for this.  I would go here instead.

See you on the trail,
Charlie

Great hike everyone! I know I mentioned that drinks are half off at Starbucks today for World AIDS Day but I found out there is a code that you need to give them which is in the email I received, so if you receive emails from Starbucks you will have received that code and you can use that for half of a drink. Sorry for the confusion possibly

Sorry to say this....but there is no way to know where Harmon and Predmore roads are...according to this map. I found directions to the entrance of Bald Mountain from my home....but please direct me from that (1330 Greenshield Rd) to that intersection. Thanks!

Thanks Charlie. I guess I'm not finding that intersection FROM the entrance that I'll be coming from (I'm coming from the Flint direction and haven't been to Bald Mountain in years).
