I accidentally posted this for the 26th, which was a mistake. Please make sure you have the date correct. The hike will be on Saturday, April 12th.
A bunch of people gather in a parking lot at a state park. You would think that a large gathering like this would lead to something exciting- that is certainly what they think. But, no, instead they get fooled into following the hike leader (who now has a captive audience) along an 8 mile hike- done at a moderate pace. What is amazing is that every week, the aforementioned hike leader finds a new captive audience. They just never catch on! He does try to soothe their injured pride by taking them to the bar afterwards.
The Meeting Place:
This hike shall take place at Waterloo Recreational Area northwest of Chelsea. We will be meeting near the Gerald E Eddy Discovery Center. There are three parking lots by the Discovery Center. We will be meeting at the first one you pass which is also the biggest.
Click here for the satellite map of the area with meeting spot pinpointed (you can use this directions).
Click here for info on Waterloo Rec.
Click here for a map of Waterloo Rec. Note, the meeting place is near the southeast end of this map. The area is just north of I-94 between exits 156 and 157. The easiest way to get there is to get off on exit 157 North (Pierce Road) and then follow the signs to the Gerard Eddy Discovery Center (they start immediately after you exit).
Pets are allowed.
Bring snacks and water.
There is an outhouse about halfway through the trail.
Do not just type "Waterloo" into your mapping program. You will end up far away at the headquarters causing shame to yourself and your ancestors.
You do need a recreational passport on your license or you can purchase one at the Discovery Center for $11. The worst that happens is you get a ticket on your car for $11 and they give you a passport in the mail when you pay the ticket.
