Sunday Afternoon Kayaking/Canoeing followed by dinner

Been itching to get out on the water?

Come join us for a Sunday afternoon kayak or canoe down the Huron River from Proud Lake to Kensington Metropark.  The float will be from Proud Lake to Shorefishing Parking at Kent Lake and will last about 4 hour including time to splash in the river.  For those who are hungry and want to go out to eat following canoeing, we will be going to The Milford House:  http://www.themilfordhouse.com  Please print out directions by checking Google maps, if you need them.

Cost:  Canoe or Kayak $46 per kayak or canoe.  Save money by pairing up with someone and taking a canoe.  Who knows you might make a friend!  Or bring your own kayak or canoe and pay $14 to have Heavner bring your water craft back.  Payed to Heavner Canoe Rental.  For reservations call Heavner Canoe Rental at (248) 685-2379.  More information and directions may be found here:  http://heavnercanoe.com/proud-lake

Please arrive at least 15 min before paddle time.

Since Heavner Canoe Rental is located in a state park, you will need  a recreational passport for $11.   Don't have one?  Don't worry!  You can purchase one at Heavner upon arrival.

Things to bring:  Sunscreen, watershoes, bug spray, hat, cooler with water or snacks.  There will be several chances to stop and snack out of the cooler.  Something to secure your car keys and cell phone or the river and lake will eat them.  Kent Lake ate my cell phone last year!

In the event of inclement weater, these event is subject to cancellation.

Hi all, i don't have a car so i'm still looking for a car-pool/lift option. So if anybody is coming from AA with whom i could drive... Let me know!

    June 13

  • Jonathan W.

It's looking like a great day to be on the River and take a chance to swim with an 88 F high. Be sure to pack sunscreen and some water, drinking out of the River is a bad idea. We will mostly encounter shallower waters, but near the dams it is deep. Be careful and if you aren't a strong swimmer have your life vest on. Looking forward to the event!

  • Samira

    Hi all,
I am new to the group. My friend and I have no experience for Kayaking/Canoeing but like to try it.
We would like to join this event; however, each of us needs partner.
I know swimming but my friend does not know. Is there a place to rent life vest there?
    Thanks!

    June 11

    • Matthew H.

If you rent from them, you're required to where a life vest, which they provide.

      June 12

    • Samira

      Thank you Matthew!

      June 12

  • undsandeep

hi, I'm also new to this group, and i don't have any previous kayaking experience. Any one needs a partner, please let me know. Thx!

    June 12

  • Lara

Hi everyone, apparently I still new a partner. Anyone want to pair up? ;-)

    June 12

    • Vigneswaran A.

Hey, I still need a partner.. I have been on a kayak only once before though..

      June 12

    • Lara

Hey there, yes we can pair. I also have only been once on a kayak but I am sure we will be just fine! We just need to make sure we don't tip over! Lol

      June 12

  • Jessie

    Does anyone want to pair?

    June 7

    • Michelle

yeah you will be fine w/out a cooler. just plan on the possibility that you and whatever you bring could get wet. keep whatever you have in a ziplock bag, wear sandals you can get wet, and bring water.

      June 9

    • Akash K.

hi Jessie, so are we pairing up for the kayaking?? you have already booked a canoe right?

      June 12

  • fraukje

Hi everybody, is anybody coming from Ann Arbor who could give me a lift? I dont have transportation...

    June 12

  • Matthew H.

I launch out of Heavners all the time with my own Kayak. This is not a section of river where you really need a pickup.

    June 12

    • Matthew H.

By the way, if you watch the sales you can usually pick up a decent one for ~$200. It easily and quickly pays for itself.

      June 12

  • Andres W.

I'll tag on with your reservation but I still need a partner, for a canoe. Anyone?

    1 · June 10

    • Lara

I would also tag along and need a partner. Anyone?

      June 10

    • fraukje

it depends on whether my friend is still going to join me on this trip. If she is, i will pair with her, if she isnt, i can be a partner for somebody else. I do have kayak experience.

      June 12

  • Andres W.

    Anyone else need a partner.

    1 · June 9

    • Wendy

      Sure that would be great

      1 · June 10

    • Lara

      Sounds good Wendy! :-)

      June 11

  • Andres W.

You all don't have to fight over me, we can just take the three person canoe. Lol Let's pair up Wendy.

    2 · June 10

  • Janet

Do we need to reserve the kayak in advance? Also, what is the total distance?

    June 10

    • Jeff

I would Janet. Heavner could rent out all their kayaks. The distance is about 8 to 9 miles.

      June 10

  • Tanya

I called about the LS deal. It's for the 2-hr upstream and back trip (no pickup) and if you want to upgrade to a 4-hr trip it will be $27 more (still no pickup). My understanding is that we're going on the 4 hr trip downstream with pickup, so I don't think this deal will probably work for this trip. However, they will give a $2 per craft discount for reservations of 6 or more craft. I already have 5 crafts reserved for myself and those who are coming with me, so if anyone wants to tag onto our reservation all of us could get the modest discount.

  • Michelle

    FYI:
You can and should go to Living Social to buy discount coupons. They are $13 for the standard 2 hour self-return trips from Proud Lake. You can use these coupons for longer trips and there will be an up-charge. The living social deal should save you a bunch of money no matter how long you canoe/kayak. Definitely recommend. The coupon is good through the end of the year.

    1 · June 9

    • Wendy

Thank you for that helpful tip, Living Social is a great site, and I do love my coupons!! It's a nice way to save some $$ for the next trip!!

      June 9

  • connie

    No 2 hour option?

    June 1

    • Jonathan W.

If you want to register for the two hour option, you can join the group, but keep your eyes open for your pickup point.

      Ok
