I am not a big fan of Labor Day Weekend camping because you are camping with everyone and their relatives at least 3 generations removed*. I figure I might as well work and hold out until the next weekend. So, for the weekend after Labor Day, I propose a stay at Brighton Rec (in Brighton, of course), which has one of the nicer rustic campgrounds in southeast Michigan and decent hiking.
* slight exaggeration, it is probably closer to 2.5
The Gritty Details
We shall be camping Friday and Saturday night at Appleton Campground, which is a rustic campground by Appleton Lake. There will be activities on Saturday like hiking and kayaking (rumor says you can rent a kayak there- I am not sure if this is true after Labor Day). Of course, I will also be bringing a frisbee and cards and, I shall start a rumor that someone will be bringing Cards Against Humanity.
$11 for a Recreational Passport if you don't have one (you can easily pick one up at Brighton Rec) and $12 per campsite per night (so $24). You can have up to 6 people per site, although there might be a limit of two cars. Please post your campsite in the discussion section.
You need to reserve a campsite here: Appleton Campground Reservations... or find someone to share a campsite with
1) Rustic campground means outhouses, water pumps, and no electricity. It also means more trees and no cement.
2) Appleton Campground is just south of Appleton Lake (here is a map of the park). However, the road itself is often not in mapping program. Here is a Satellite Map of Appleton Campground. You can see the road there even though it is not listed. Use these maps to get directions
3) The organizer of this event is fond of llamas and muenster cheese and will get cranky if he is denied these for an extended period of time.
